Re: [RCSE] Question about shipping to Europe

2005-04-22 Thread junk1
US air parcel is the cheapest, if the package is
under a certain size and weight, it can be shipped as a "small packet"
for less.
If it is small enough to be stuffed into a flat rate global priority
envelope
and under 4lbs. it can go anywhere for under $10.00

Is there any method other than US Parcel Post to send a package to Europe
without spending a small fortune?

I have a box about 17 inches square and 6 inches deep that I need to send
to France. The package will only weigh a couple of pounds.

Any help or experiences (good or bad) will be much appreciated.

RE: [RCSE] Looking for built HL Encore

2005-04-22 Thread Jim Laurel
Tom,
Not sure if your friend will be interested in this, but I do have a NIB
(javelin launch) PsykoLogic for sale: $150. A new Logic DLG costs $329.

This is the plane:
http://www.nesail.com/detail.php?productID=13

Ignore the bit about it being a DLG, etc. I'm not sure what would have to
be done to convert this plane to a DLG, or if it's even possible. But if
your friend is specifically looking for a javelin style HLG, this would be
great.

[RCSE] Ford Long Shaft Motor

2005-04-22 Thread Brent Hoover
Hi Rick,
I did the same thing a few years back. You need to pull the armature and
clip the leads going to the smaller winding in the field. You will need a
piece of coat hanger wire to form a brush holding do-hickey when replacing
the armature back into the case. Overall I did NOT see much improvement.

You can get someone (or yourself) to REPLACE the 12 volt field coils with
six volt coils, leaving out the shunt as well. I am running this set up
now. Not quite a NATS power winch, but close. Launch practicing with this
setup is much more like true contest launch.

RE: [RCSE] sailplane info wanted

2005-04-22 Thread Cameron
I own a Vulcan2M. It is a very nice sailplane. One thing though -- when
you balance the sailplane according to the specs in the instructions it will
have a very aft CG and be quite twitchy to fly. I would recommend moving
the CG between 1/4 to 1/2 inch forward. I usually launch the sailplane by
which or hi-start and then head out to search for thermals. It handles fine
with a quick roll rate but it is sensitive to pitch. I like the sailplane a
lot and fly it frequently.

[RCSE] Klaus Wess To Muncie,,, Flights of fancy!

2005-04-22 Thread GordySoar

Hi Klaus,
It would be a great bit of interest to see you flying that RNR Genesis all
fixed up with lots of epoxy, but I doubt the airlines would allow it in the
weight limit for baggage!

I was only 7 places behind you at the Heathcote Cup comp
in Feb, and I was flying a 2m . hm

You flew really well at Heathcoate and while I had hoped to win
there again this season..it wasn't to be. Carl Strautin (Aussie F3J Team Member)
had his soaring hat on, his Sharon tuned up and eyes that could see in that dark
sky haze!

My zero flight because of my canopy falling off on that launch
and the following two short launch line breaks might have had some effect on my
standing that day :-)

However kudos to you!  7th out of 6 pilots flying is still
quite an achievement! :-) (just kidding!)
What's new in Sydney soaring this seasonseen any Shadows
yet? :-)

In making a minor change to the May issue of RCSD, we inadvertently
added two blank pages which in turn totally destroyed the proper
positioning of the last several pages.

If you downloaded the May issue between 12:00 midnight Pacific time
and 11:00 AM Pacific time, you got this version of the magazine with
the obvious errors.

We've just placed a corrected PDF, with the appropriate number of
pages in their proper locations, on the server. Please download the
corrected version which is now on-line and either trash or recycle
(depending on your OS) the original PDF file.

Sorry for the inconvenience. We promise not to let this happen again!

The Vulcan had a 7012 airfoil which was a bit of getting use to. It is a
fast airfoil and for my friend, who owned one, had difficulty trying to get
it to thermal. I never thought it was a good choice for a 2m ship. None
the less, the plane looks great! Ed Sleger always had an eye for nice
looking designs.

Good luck.

RE: [RCSE] sailplane info wanted

2005-04-22 Thread Douglas, Brent
One of the DARTS guys, John Schmoll, used to show up at the field with a
Vulcan. I remember it was very clean looking, very quick - reminded me
a lot of a Super V.

Of all the times I recall him flying it, I never saw it thermal - not
that it can't. He used to set it up, winch it as hard as he could, then
do aerobatics with it until he ran out of steam. Reminded me more of a
Swift than anything else.

It's a beautiful ship; the image of him doing slow rolls in a dive over
the field will always remind me of why I love sailplanes.

Good luck,
Brent

[RCSE] RC heli at slope

2005-04-22 Thread sakazaki, osamu
Hi, all
In this winter I flew small RC electric helicopters, XRB SR Lama
(Hirobo) and Hummingbird Elite CP (Centruy RC Helicopter), at my living
room.

Now I plan to fly RC helicopter as a rotor wing glider or powerless
autogyro at slope. I think some modifications are needed: adding a fin
and a rudder for yaw control instead of tail rotor. I also think that
collective pitch control is a must and bigger helis are better.

Any tips or advice are all welcome.
Thanks in advance,
Osamu

Hi Guys,
Okay for you guys who have no interest, feel free...to participate!
:-)
"Why JoJo?"...
This year LSF is featuring F3J at our Nationals, as part of the fun
and to make it even more representative of the World scene of F3J, some of
us are doing what we can to bring Jo Grini over from Norway, Jo's a great guy
and rc soaring contributor (http://www.grini.no/diary) or (http://www.grini.no/), but also
one of the top contest Soaring guys in his part of the world.  This effort
as spurred World F3J Champion David Hobby of Melborne Australia to finagle his
work schedule to conicide and there is a possibility of Colin Lucas
(English Nationals Champ and British F3J World Pilot) attending too...not to
leave out Doug Pike of Canada and ???.
The "Lets bring JoJo to Muncie" started as a fun idea but has now
blossomed into inspiration for international top pilots to take some notice..
However, David is traveling with work, Colin picks a free fight because of
his other flying buddy being an international airline pilot, but Jo...he's on
his own coin...

JR has provided Radios
Barry Kennedy is providing airplanes so that Jo can compete in all
events (some electtric too!)
Modelers who have become email pals with Jo are providing a room
and transportation,,,but the ticket is tough and we are about half way there
with help.

Jim Bacus leads the way with $250 with Larry Jolly and Michael
Volz just behind, donations have come from the East, Midsouth and the
slopes of California
it won't take many of those to get this chiseled down..or just a
little from each of you Nationals pilots and F3J World Team guys.

Jo will bring some fun and interest to F3J in general...and to all
the events.
Send the donations to my address:
