Ordering via the internet from my military station in Korea, my packages
arrive a month late at times. My order of a NEU motor from Steven of
Diversity Model Aircraft was shipped in the first days of August but I had
no notice of its arrival as of 8th of September. I emailed Steven of this
situation and asked if he could track it or took out insurance on the
package. His reply was negative on the tracking but he was willing to
send me another one at his cost if I did not get it in another 2 weeks.
The story has a good ending in that today I found my box sitting in the
mailroom ever since the 16th of August.

Though I had the anguish of waiting over a month for my motor, I am glad
that I found a model dealer with such a generous heart. Here ye! Here
ye! Steven Belknap is a good guy!

[RCSE] OVSS #7-SOAR Fred Contest Sponsored by JR

2005-09-09 Thread ROBERT M GELLART
The next stop for OVSS is Chicago and the annual Fred Contest, September 17
and 18. I am going to let CD Tom Kallevang tell you which sod farm location
the contest is going to be at. I know it is NW of Plainfield but I want the
SOAR guys to tell ya, not me. Remember, seeded MOM, long tasks, FAI tapes,
and no skegs. I will finally get to fly this contest with no trade shows on
the weekend, even though I will be in KCMO Friday evening finishing one, but
I will make it. Remember JR goodies at the end of the weekend and those
great JRDS 368 servos for each class winner for the weekend. Thank you JR,
Peter, and John for their support of the OVSS.

[RCSE] Cool Soaring Moment

2005-09-09 Thread ROBERT M GELLART
Last Monday, was in central Ohio at a horse function. Got done and was
headed back home, had just started out of a stop sign when in a final glance
to my right I caught site of a full size bird that was pretty low. So in a
quick move, pulled into a driveway and turned around and headed back down
the road.

When safe, got orientated and got site of the ship again. He was really low
and almost immediately he finished his final attempt to thermal and headed
into a very short run south and then a turn back north to set up for base
and final to a wheat stubble field. Made a huge bank to line up on the
field and disappaered below topography. There was also another ship above
this guy, that as I got out of my car, this guy cranked up his motor and
flew off to the east and onward to the Marion airport.

The ship was a Discus, not sure which version, but it did have tip sails.
When I got out to him the ship was in good shape and he was out and kind of
trying to figure out where he was. I took him to my car and I helped him
get his bearings and got him to a house so he could hopefully contact a land
owner so he could get the trailer out to the ship. He was fairly far out in
the field, and as I could not imagine, this guy did not have a cell phone
along. I guess they got him out and all is well.

The guy flying the motor glider was the gentleman's son, so I guess that he
would be the one coming back to get him and knew where he was, I hope.

Re: [RCSE] Model finish

2005-09-09 Thread dcopley
Dan, before you get too elaborate with the chemicals. In my aircraft detail
business, I've used Rubbing Compound 7 mixed with wax (not the paste but liquid,
Meguiars has a wax special formulated for oxidization and you problems sounds
familiar) to get the surface clean on a aeronautical high gloss paint. This
works
well with high gloss white paint. In your case, I'd use more wax and less
rubbing
compound gradually increase it. Now this will only work if you sure the marks
are
not impregnated into the finish.

If any of the above cleaning methods worked even a little, before my idea don't
change cleaning methods but stay with it. What my method will do is act as a
mild
abrasive and the wax help with the minute scratches. If the only option you have
left is to paint then you'll need to prepare the surface for paint anyway. Don't
know if anyone mentioned using Brasso or other fine metal polish as I have used
this on high gloss paint stains as well (example: rust drops, bird droppings).

Later,
Don

Tried, toothpaste, thought you guys were pulling my leg but a few
suggested it...it didn't work, niether did clorox cleanup, 409, goo
gone and others.

I'll go with the rubbing compound.

Plan B will be a flying buddy with a serious paint booth, maybe we'll
get creative :)

I guess it's like a new car before you get that first door ding...

Before assembly, I had my new Ava safely in it's bag. The fuse and
tailboom were in the side pocket. The result is some of the carbon
powder from the inside of the tailboom found its way onto the nosecone
leaving some dark streaks on the white finish.

The finish doesn't seem to be marred, I just can't seem to get the marks
 out.
It's not the end of the world but it is so daggone good looking!

 Any suggestions?

I have a JR 8103 DT for sale. It is the A model (acro

models equally well, and is on channel 55. It's in great shape,
battery upgraded to 1400 NiMH. Includes original charger, manual,
plastic frequency numbers, flag, box, and packing. Will sell for
$190 plus shipping cost using USPS, UPS, FedEx, your choice.

Re: [RCSE] Good vendor alert

2005-09-09 Thread Michael Conte
Mr Belknap spent about 1/2 hour on the phone with me discussing custom
battery configurations for my Ellipse 4 and electric Escape/Ellipse.
He was able to make batteries with a much larger capacity I thought
was possible for the planes. Definitely a class act.

[RCSE] Kits for Sale

2005-09-09 Thread jtlsf5
I have 2 kits that I'll probably never get around to building, so thought I
would offer them on the exchange first and local club list server first.

1. LJMP (Larry Jolly Model Products) Comet. This is a cross country sized
plane, 14.75' wingspan, Eppler 205 airfoil, built up wing/stab/rudder,
fiberglass fuse. This is a big plane, the box of wood/plans/hardware weighs
around 6 pounds and the fuse is about 6' long. I would prefer local pickup or
I could deliver to Visalia. $350 plus shipping.

2. Bob Sealy Ultima. This is an unlimited class sailplane, balsa skinned foam
wings/stab/rudder, fiberglass fuse with nosecone. Airfoil is Selig 4061 (the
Selig-ized Eppler 214), kind of slow but very efficient in lift. Wing is three
piece with bolt on main and plug in tips. Stab is two piece T-tail. $225 plus
shipping.

Contact me offline at phone or e-mail below.

[RCSE] NYX - Thermal duration feedback

2005-09-09 Thread ownee77
I am looking for feedback on the thermal flying / landing qualities of the
NYX. I own a NYX but have never flown it. I also owned an Artemis but it
somehow found the only tree at our field and decided to land there. I
really liked the Artemis. I'm trying to decide whether to trade/sell the
NYX and buy an Artemis or possibly a Pike, although I don't realy want to
spend the extra dough on a Pike.

Thanks,
S Gibson
