[RCSE] Did "moreglue.com" disappear?

Title: [RCSE] [RCSC] Stratos SL V-tail for sale

About a month ago someone mentioned www.moreglue.com as a source for CA glue and
epoxy.

I went looking to order some soon and the site is not
responding; does anyone know if they're still in biz or
not?

[RCSE] "Team Louisville on a Wood Mission in Tullahoma...as usual!"

2005-09-17 Thread GordySoar

This weekend is the Tullahoma Contest, and since there are only light duty
contest pilots down there we sent our back up to our back up pilot, LSF5 Ed
Wilson (LASS Club President).

I begged him to go easy on those guys from Tn and AL because I know how
sensitive they are...Fly'n Brian Smith, Herb, Kendal, Jon. :-)

So while he took his secret weapon (I pity those of you TD open class guys
who don't know about this plane!) the Evolution from Isthmus Models and his
Southern Kite RES ship...(about 30 year old balsa kit) and managed to hurt a
bunch of them anyway.
Congrats to Kendal winning Open and Jon Stone taking second, but a huge
Louisville proud atta boy from his club kinfolk for taking third in Open and
second in RES...tomorrows another day and I scolded him to lighten up
somemore :-)

I heard it was great weather and some challenging tasks...the landings were
two circles one in side the other. In or out. LSF1 landing task diameter for the
big one and LSF2 inside it, located at its bottom.  Big landing point was
only 30 so you HAD to get times today to get wood...however like most TD
contests good landings really did help...
For instance if you hit a car, or smash into the crapper, chances for wood
today was gonna be pretty much impossible!

Wish I could have been there, I let a lot of pilots down because apparently
the AMA now has an official gold badge that says, "I Beat Gordy, but not
Butch".

More news tomorrow!

[RCSE] Looking for a Pike Fuse

2005-09-17 Thread Chuck Robinett
I am looking for a used Pike fuse for a project, Can be repaired or in need
or repair. Would prefer a cross tail, but a V-tail would work.

Thanks

Re: [RCSE] Anybody use torque system for spoiler return?

2005-09-17 Thread Mark Williams
Stan,

Back in the late 70's and early 80's a flying buddy and I developed a torque
drive system for spoilers. We both had poly ships with plug in wings. A
single servo was used in the fuselage to drive the set-up.

Since the center panels had dihedral some type of "flex-joint" was required
for the drive set-up. We found a coiled spring at the hardware store that
fit quite nicely into K & S brass tubing. Using three segments of brass
tube one on each end for the receptacles and one in the center for the drive
horn this was made up with epoxy. The outer receptacles were filled with
some K & S square tubing to drive the rods. The spring provided the flex
for the dihedral angle and with a little experimentation of the gap between
the tubes enough stiffness to drive the spoilers.

Torque rods were made of 1/16" piano wire and the appropriate square tubing
to mate with the drive receptacle was soldered to the end. We made drive
horns for both the spoiler and drive using brass sheet and wheel collars
soldered together. The best way to drive the spoiler was with an
articulated arm, forearm and bicep. This gave full 90 degree drive without
over driving the servo output providing positive up and positive down. No
strings, magnets, or whatever.

Still have both ships that I installed the system in and fly one of them for
some of our RES events. No issues with it other than the fabrication and
materials search. It's great to get to the field, plug the wings on and
have the spoilers ready to go.

For those interested, I did an article on De-Solve It for RCSD, it
was the best Citrus cleaner that I found for removing wing hinge and
joint tape too. Post me a note off line and I'll send you a copy.

Just wasn't sure it would work on sap.
