[RCSE] Blue Skies Over Texas (DLG)

2006-04-24 Thread David Register

Summaries of the DLG contest at Southfork this weekend are posted at:

http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=470439highlight=blue+skies

This was the first leg of the Blue Skies Challenge (Texas-New Mexico).
Conditions were tough on Sunday but a very well run and enjoyable
contest with some incredible flying both days. The flyoff was one of the
best slugfests I've seen at a DLG event. Some really kick-a** flying
from all of the top guys. Dwain Carter took first, Austin Williams
second and Aradhana Singh Khalsa third but it was anybodys game right up
to the last launch of the last round.

If you missed this one, you missed a really great experience. Next one
is Blue Skies Over New Mexico at Moriarty on May 20-21 (Aradhana CD)

Thanks to Tim Bennett (CD) and the Soaring League of North Texas for
hosting a really fine weekend event. Tim and the club's hard work to
sponsor this contest, and DLG development in the region, is really
appreciated.

RE: [RCSE] Re: Initial CG on a scratch ship...

2006-04-24 Thread Douglas, Brent
Thanks to all that gave me info on coming up with the CG last week -
much appreciated. A couple overlapping techniques, a couple great links
(now bookmarked), and a lot of experience brought to bear really helped.

End result was a successful maiden and a still healthy ship. For those
of you that threw out a number, 3 back from the LE seemed to be pretty
darn close. That translated into a lead plug about the size of a small
coffee cup (with a hole in it for the tow release).

Again, the quick replies here were (are) much appreciated - shots of the
maiden take off are at

http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=453840page=2pp=15

DARTS aerotow shots to follow when I get to more friendly computer.

Lift,
Brent

[RCSE] Air Hog Air Ace TX and other mod link

Things like seperating the steering from the throttle and dual rates are
found here to upgrade your Aero Ace's.
Best is to remove the bottom wing completely and then it flys
great. Could use about 3/16" down incidence in the tail boom too

For when you are waiting for the winch to get set up
:-)

[RCSE] Anyone have a Model 20 Retreiver for sale?

2006-04-24 Thread GordySoar

Hi guys,

A friend in Brazil is looking for a retriever for his club. Getting
the big wheel auto retriever down there is too big ofa deal , so I figured
the Model 20 would be a great option..considering they have never used a
retriever in their lives :-)

I know they'll have to make a winch with our kind of brake system on it
too, since their winchs are the F3B style with no way to let line out without
freewheeling into a snarl.

[RCSE] Super AVA Nears Completion, City Officials File Ecology Suit!

2006-04-24 Thread GordySoar

Religious fanatics and Environmentalists are up in
arms, as are some sun worshippers, all claiming that the because of the huge
transparent square area of the Super AVA's wing, that the impact on the
Louisville environment could be drastic!

Some clam that the wing passing in front of the sun
and its rays passing thru the wing's covering will cause the very earth to burn
to lava.

Weirdo fanatics say that the eclipse caused will drive
many crazy, causing them to boycott Aruba and Kentucky Fried Chicken...or
worse!

One weatherman predicted that the current gas price
raise is the Middle East's
reaction, thinking that the Super AVA is some
trick to create a new solar energy source.

Me? I think its gonna be a blast to fly :-)
Just got to hook up the spoiler linkages...I have decided on the ball
link system...and I yes I have done the Gene Hays Split Spoiler system...9 1/2"
from either end.

I heard today in the news that some scientists want to make a huge
glass disc positioned between the sun and the earth to slow global
warming. Perhaps they could just use a Super AVA?

They're just gonna screw up the glass disc like they did the Hubble
mirror and it'll fry us like so many ants of my childhood.
