Hi all,

Just to remind you that this weekend coming up 13/14 May is the Scottish
Nats for slope flying.
Meeting will be at the usual place, East Lomond car park, 9.30 for 10.00
start.

Remember the venue for the Nats is weather dependant and if possible we
will be flying on Bishop Hill, so an early start for the hill will be
required.

Please be there for 2 days of F3f and possibly some 60 racing or foamie
combat.

Any non regulars please contact me for directions to the site or visit;
   http://www.soar-fife.co.uk for details.

[RCSE] ARF Sag's-Kind of Lame

2006-05-10 Thread Marc Gellart
Was making a pass through RC Groups this AM and found a post concerning ARF
Sagitta 600 and 900's from Esprit Models. They look really sweet, but,
always a but, the 600 has a span of about 82 and they are both flapped
wings. Appear to be built very will , all wood, so woody legal, and
composite reinforcement in the wings, but they missed it on the flaps and
the span IMHO. A guy that could do some surgery, but that is missing the
point for buying a nice ARF. It makes you wonder who they talked to or got
their info from?

And 600 miles Northwest of Tullahoma, TN which is too far to go to a
contest but I did manage to schedule a trip to South Dakota on his
contest weekend back in 2001. I don't fly HL or 2-Meter so could
only fly on Sunday. It was very windy with a SE wind over 15
mph. Landing downslope over the hill to the spot at the edge of the
pond was a real challenge and I was able to work slope lift on final
for almost another minute on one flight. I actually got on the spot
on every flight but on one flight, the wind picked up the model and
flipped it inverted before I could get to it. A line of
thunderstorms approaching at noon prompted me to get an early start
to South Dakota.

I have always scheduled trips to coincide with contests whenever
possible. It is always fun to visit and see all the different flying
sites. Gordy has it right. Schedule travel to visit as many
contests as possible. They are all fun and you can meet the most
interesting people.

[RCSE] Re: new Bird of Time and turbulence

2006-05-10 Thread Phavriluk
I went out this past weekend to fly my shiny-new BoT, all-up weight 42
ounces. I think that's the lightest-loaded sailplane I've ever built.
Moderately
lumpy day, 10 knots, unsteady velocity and direction. Airplane behaved
unusually, exhibited behavior I've not encountered, it flew along,
interspersing
steady states with pitch-down bumps and recovery. Gusty days I've seen
bounce noses up when a gust comes with the prevailing wind, so that
momemtarily
the airplane sees more airspeed, but bumps 'down', and lots of them, are new
to
me.Any thoughts as to whether I saw weather-induced bumps or receiver
(FMA Extreme 5) glitching )? Yes, the range check seemed all right, and I had
good control during the flight.

Thanks, folks.
