[RCSE] 3M #853 tape

2006-05-14 Thread Jim Laurel
I bought a roll of this stuff from NSP years ago and have found many uses
for it. This is a super thin polyester tape, highly resistant to tearing,
highly resistant to UV, very strong. Alas, my precious roll of the stuff is
almost at an end. Does anyone know where to buy it by the roll? There are
many vendors online, but they are selling $600+ cases.

Is this the same stuff that NSP now sells as Bonk tape?

[RCSE] Antenna Routing

2006-05-14 Thread Robert P. Buxton

Mark,
I ran my antenna on the Piper on the inside and even use a Rubber Duck
antenna on my transmitter(JR 8103). I have no distance problem with
this setup. The only problem is my eyesight. So, the
fuselages of the Piper and the EVO XL seem to be constructed in the same
manner and material so I don't see any reason not to run it internally
but as others have so wisely suggested, RANGE CHECK. My son an I
range check mine with one at the plane and the other in the car driving
away with the transmitted and cell phones(hands free, of course) to
communicate.
I have all the necessary components for my EVO XL in hand and will start
assemble today. I did note in the EVO Setup instructions(translated
from German to English)that they warn against running the antenna wire
internally. I wonder if this is not a European problem, i.e.
European frequencies. Maybe someone on the list can confirm or
deny.
Best Regards,
Robert

Re: [RCSE] 3M #853 tape

2006-05-14 Thread Rick Eckel

Jim,

That sounds very much like the tape I have used for years. I know it
as Moore Crystal Clear tape. It is very thin but tough. It adheres
well and doesn't leave goo when you remove it even after years of sun
exposure. It works great for hinges when taped front and back. It
is not stiff enough to use on only one side.

I find it at art supply stores. There are a number of art supply
stores on the web that sell it.

Another tape I have just come across is Brother LX label tape. It is
made for labeling machines and is commonly sold in office supply
stores. It is a stiffer tape but seems to have a real nice adhesive
and is easy to handle. I haven't tried it yet but in some
experiments it looks real promising for hinges.

Hope this helps
Rick

Yeah, but that was a special Laser, it had an invisible planform. Even DP couldn't see the damn thing.

[RCSE] Soldering servo cables

2006-05-14 Thread Jim Deck
OK, I'll admit I'm the world's worst solderer. But, I'm faced with
soldering some servo cable connections to use a servo to drive each spoiler.
I seem to remember seeing some tips in this forum for such a task. Can
anybody point me to them?
Thanks in advance,
Jim Deck

2006-05-14 Thread Russ Light

Jim,
Found this link talking about various tapes. The most recommended is
the 3M #845 used for book repair

http://www.amadistrictii.org/cjrcc/Articles/hinge_tape.html
This may have similar properties to the #853

I found this library supply company which sells the #845
