Hey I had one of those! I love that thin, low aspect ratio wing with
those huge flaps. Mine had a black bottom wing surface and white/ intense
yellow on top and on the tail feathers, pretty plane. After a couple of
brief, late evening preliminary flights, we went out for our local Sunday
fly and I was gonna do some serious tuning to get it set up. I remember
the first couple of flights were rough, I didn't have the CG anywhere
near right and throws and flap/elevator compensation wasn't weren't even
close. With each flight it got better and better. Finally, on the 6th
flight I popped a good launch, everything was working really well and I
hit some good lift. It flew really well. It wasn't long before I had it
way up there and way out there, but the colors made it quite visible. I
had two friends right next to me when one suggested that I was quite a
ways out there and I had better start thinking about coming home, and I
agreed. With the three of us watching the plane I started a big lazy
turn with the flaps down a tad, enough to slow me down a little bit and
the plane disappearedjust vanished.

I looked for the rest of that day, and most of the next. A farmer found
it a year later. Bummer. I liked that thin, low aspect ratio wing and
those nice big flaps. I don't suppose anyone has one in a box just sorta
lying about

Cheers,

Bill

RE: [RCSE] Old DJ Aero Monarch 2M...

2006-07-11 Thread Douglas, Brent
We had our annual 2M event Sunday, and one of the guys had an old
Monarch (early model) out - it flew good as hell. It launched hard,
hung great, turned on a dime, great landing ship - it really was
competitive (flying against Gnomes, SuperVs, and Organics).

I had a later model (C or D?), and it was not quite the same ship, but I
certainly wouldn't turn my nose up at the one I timed for this weekend.

2006-07-11 Thread Barry Andersen
Hi Greg, I suggest keeping those tips, perhaps doing some work as
needed. They look really great with light passing through them and
will hold up fine. Epoxy in place, then put some tape on the joint.

I agree with Brent that the plane will launch really well and with a
bit of camber hang reasonably well. Since you indicate you are still
gaining experience with full house sailplanes, I'd be sure to get
some help setting it up. It will snap and spin if the cg is too far
back or if you get greedy on the elevator stick.

I still have mine for sale with 341 on ruddervaters, 368s on flaps,
voltz wingmax on ailerons, JR 770 rcvr. Can deliver to the NATS.
Email off line if anyone is interested

I've flown my brother's thin airfoil 2M Monarch a few times with little luck.
'Course it's gained weight from a few repairs. I've gone back to my trusty
Banshee -- that is when I fly 2M! (Sorry I missed you guys at DARTS -- I was
doing the annual on the Long EZ.) It's a real handful, but when you get it in
the groove, it's a great flyer. It just has a very narrow sweet spot. I won
the MOSS 2M with it way back when.

Hey Rudy,

Remember the time you blew the nose off on the launch! Then there
was the time Ben landed his on the power lines, talk about a fire ball!
Monarchs have a history here in Cincinnati.

[RCSE] HLG battery packs

2006-07-11 Thread Bill Johns

Greetings!

I just dug my HLG out after a seriously long hiatus and wonder what
the latest and greatest technology is out there for small/light
battery packs these days. Can anyone point me at a good source for
such a battery pack?

(I usually go to Batteries America and their web page is acting
really funny and unusable...strange.)

Thanks,

Bill
