Re: [RCSE] Foil Wing Bags
For what it's worth: I use the cheap ($1 at $1 store) foam backed mylar car window visor for my wing covers. Just cut it to shape and duct tape it together. Seems to work OK...doesn't look the greatest, but seems to keep the monokote from bubbling up in the sun. Only $1 a wing and a couple on minutes to cut and tape it together. Bob

I've heard that a similar / suitable type of heavy-duty bubble wrap material is used to make swimming pool covers. For those of you coming to the Fall Fest in Visalia, I just want to remind you that we will have an electric aerobatic contest along with the usual hand toss carnage. The contestants will be judged by the audience and the $5 entry will go to the winner. I am looking for someone to run the Handlaunch competition, so if you are interested please contact me. [RCSE] Re: Soaring V1 #8153-Foil Wing Bag Material
Rick, I do not know what is being used in Europe but I am very happy with a quilted aluminum foil over bubble wrap. The product is called Reflectix. I get it at a building supply chain in Wisconsin called Menards. The manufacturer is Reflectix, Inc, #1 School St., Markleville, l IN 46056 Phone 1-765-533-4332 or 1-800-879-3645. The bubble wrap is covered on each side with quilted aluminum foam. The product is 1/4 in thick. I buy it in rolls 24 in wide and 25 or 50 ft. long. I crease it and wrap it around a wing and fasten it together every 12 in. with self adhesive Velcro pads. On a tapered wing if the root chord is too wide just add some extensions of duct tape and put the Velcro on that. My 183 in. Reiher 2 has a wing root of 17.6 in. so I just let the crease be along the chord and wrapped the 24 in. Reflectix along top and bottom of the wing. I trimmed off the excess and added the Velcro. My wife used to sew my wing socks but now I can quickly cut my own with a pair of scissors. Bob Harold

You can get the insulating material in Europe. All I am asking Please do not assume that the bubble foil is the same. As always, it is always your choice on what to use. Be careful with your plane. you spend good money to purchase it and build it. If I had the choice of setting my plane on the grass in the heat unprotected or in that bubble foil trust me I would have it unprotected. I don't want to ramble so I'll get out of here.
