RE: [RCSE] Micro Slopers?

Date: Tue, 14 Jan 2003 10:21:49 -0800 Small models can be quite challenging. Little things become big things so unexpectedly. Be very careful with whatever you choose. I've been disappointed several times. Mark Meck makes a conventional plane that uses wingerons. It looks very tempting but I'm not sure of the servo requirements. Mark also makes a Noseeum flying wing which is a dandy sloper. It's an adrenaline laced thrill ride once you start moving the stick! However, its a flying wing. The DAW Dragonette is a great flyer. I loved mine. With just rudder/elevator it was ball of fun and it looks pretty good too. It flys in a wide range of wind speeds yet needs nearly no lift. It's a great plane. Um... do you have the tiny battery and Rx to accompany those servos? Bill Swingle Janesville, CA [EMAIL PROTECTED] RCSE-List facilities provided by Model Airplane News. [RCSE] Gyro
Will a gyro acting on a single aileron have much (enough) effect? When the wind is sufficient to slope my 3 meter ship, I do not have enough strength to launch it in a level attitude. Under the best of circumstances I can barely make through the "window" in the trees and brush that marks the line between turbulence and the lift band at my launch site. When a gust occurs while passing through the turbulent area it means a visit to Mart Falarski's "Dumb Thumbs Repair Shop" after I have retrieved the plane. Would placing a gyro on one of the ailerons be sufficient to hold a 3 meter F3B ship level while passing through moderate turbulence? Re: [RCSE] Wing to fuze joint
Although I haven't seen the idea implemented, local flyers discussed the use of small Radio Shack rare earth magnets (properly oriented) implated at the ends of the wing rod tube (when using a steel wingrod)to hold the wings to the fuze. Else, just put the magnets in the root rib and the fuze. They are tiny and powerful. Actually, James Osborn was demonstrating some extremely powerful, small, rare earth magnets he had obtained from a cabinet maker's supply house, when the topic came up. Re: [RCSE] Save Speedvision petition.
While this is not soaring related, in any way, it does touch upon the use of RCSE for propagating ideas that may be of interest to some. Perhaps. Signers of the "Save Speedvision" (and other) electronic petitions may wish to examine the privacy policy of the organization hosting the petition drive, if not the authors of the petition itself. It is not uncommon to discover that the information you provide while "signing" the petition become grist for the marketing (and spamming) mill of organizations that have nothing to do with Fox Television, Rupert Murdoch, NASCAR racing or other agencies close to the hearts of the signers. caveat firmator RCSE-List facilities provided by Model Airplane News. Re: [RCSE] Stratos with digital camera+video xmtr
There is a little subtlety that may have been overlooked by those enjoying the videos shot from Tom's plane and suggesting other maneuvers. When he is flying, he is wearing VR glasses and pilots from the video image he sees in the glasses ... not from viewing the actual plane as seen from the ground. That is, it is as if he were actually in the pilot's seat. I assure you that watching the monitor as Tom flies sometimes sometimes makes me wish for a dose of dramamine. 8-) You may recall that this report of Tom's latest exploits follows one where he was shot down by someone turning on a transmitter on his frequency while he was in flight. 8-( Clearly, there is no keeping a good man down! [RCSE] coaxial pushrods ?
How do I attach piano wire to the blue plastic (nylon?) outer sheath of a "Goldenrod" push rod? Due to the substantial length and small diameter of the end of my tail boom (carbon fiber golf club shaft) I am contemplating the use of the 48 inch (Blue sheath) "Goldenrod" push rod. The inner (golden) nylon rod connects to a metal rod that connects to a clevis. I would like to attach a wire to the outer (blue) sheath that would then connect to a clevis. The push rods would then be in a coaxial form through the length of the tail boom and would move independently of one another. What do you suggest would be a good way to attach the wire to the blue sheath? There is no clearance inside the sheath for anything other than the inner (golden) rod, which extends beyond the blue outer sheath at both ends. I would like a firm, non slip, wire to plastic connection. Thanks. Dave RCSE-List facilities provided by Model Airplane News. Send "subscribe" and "unsubscribe" requests to [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Darryl P writes: "So, how do we make contests more fair in the states?" Well, how about reducing the emphasis on landing and creating an "approach" task? This might include flying in a narrow corridor marked by wands and streamers which would, if properly executed, land you right on target.
