2006-05-22 Thread David Schat
Dave,

If don't get you problem solved by one of our honorable listees, check out
Yahoo groups http://groups.yahoo.com/group/AirtronicsUsersGroup/. I have
had several scenarios and problems solved by that list. There is a
Airtronics Tech monitoring the list and usually gets back to you on the same
day.

Marc,

Does the Pike Perfect predominantly launch better than the Pike superior
possibly? If Peter perfect piloted a pickled Pike; how much launch height
could Peter Perfect pick with a Pike Perfect?

Just wondering aloud,

I've noticed that Hobby People have some killer Action Figures in all
kinds of garb. These are more like collectables and the realism is
outstanding. They look to be about the right size for 1/4 scale. Pilots,
soldiers, etc.

I don't see a problem with this. Some guy out in field flying his scale

[RCSE] AMA Show.

2005-01-09 Thread David Schat
Just returned from an enjoyable show. Of particular interest was a flight
demo and then close inspection and QA session of a million dollar micro
ornithopter. Thanks to Matt Keenon of Aerovironment for flying and telling
us all about it. The thing was the about the size of a sparrow. The control
surface actuators were thin strands of muscle wire about as thin as
thread. The things contracted when given current. A pager vibrator motor
flapped the wings. Flight times are around 25 minutes Very cool!

The bird that was flown actually had about $450 worth of materials. Darpa
funded project and $1,000,000 was spent developing the thing.

Plenty other stuff to drool over as well.

Gotta' be the Aquila for me had three of them as an adolescent.
It's been almost 30 years since but I'll never forget my trip dwon the cliff

naive teenage country bumpkin... halfway down the cliff I swore all the
folks on the beach had the same color bathing suits until I reached beach
level.

Needless to say it took much longer than it should have to retrieve the

[RCSE] Security issues and R/C models-keep politics off the exchange

2004-10-23 Thread David Schat
A letter writing campaign is only part of what the Rocket community did to
battle the BAFTE regulating our rocket motors. The Rocket community has
organizations like the AMA. Those folks coordinated the letter writing
campaign so all members would send the letters in at about the same time.
They also provided boiler plate text to be used in the letters but
encouraged everyone to customize the letters appropriately.

They also lobbied congress and found a sympathetic Senator to champion our
cause and submit a bill to counter the BAFTE.

They also have a lawsuit in progress against the BAFTE.
They also found a judge to make a ruling against the BAFTE. He found
that the BAFTE did not follow proper procedure in handing down some
regulations and was able to halt the regulations until they were properly
done.

I'm no Rocket Scientist but don't orbital craft fire the motors in reverse
to slow them down for re-entry? Couldn't the craft fire it's motor a bit

permit the feather recovery?

In any case... given Burt's creativity I'm sure he'll think of something and
$50,000,000 ought to get the ball rolling.

One thing I'm sure of. I am glad to be witness to this accomplishment.
I've been enjoying Burt's digs in the media at big goverment as well.

The Owens Valley is a Mecca for soaring, full size, para-sailers and hang

gliding with O2 and jackets in the middle of summer covering courses in the
hundreds of miles. Damn good model flying also! I sure miss the place.

[RCSE] AMA invoved in Homeland security act revisions.

2003-03-04 Thread David Schat
This is from Rocketry Online

Academy of Model Aeronautics (AMA) Joins Cause
March 3, 2003
Web posted at: 2:23 PM EST
(ROL Newswire) -- The Academy of Model Aeronautics (AMA) has contacted Mark
Bundick (NAR President) and Dick Embry (TRA President) with concerns over
the impact of the Homeland Security Act (HSA). Recognizing we have common
concerns, the AMA agreed with Dick Embry this morning to support the cause.
AMA will instruct its 175,000 members to join our efforts to contact
Senators to support Senator Enzi's effort to draft legislation to protect
our hobby. The Tripoli Rocketry Association will also support any campaign
to protect powered model aircraft from the negative effects of the HSA.

Please visit the website http://www.space-rockets.com/congress.html and
do what you can. Our recent efforts at lobbying for Torrey Pines shows that
we can make a difference.

Even if you are not involved with Rockets your help may benefit children
who would not otherwise be exposed to this interesting science.
