[RCSE] For Sale: 5.33m EMS Duo Discus 1/3 Scale Glider
I have a large medical bill to pay and have no choice but to sell my beautiful EMS 1/3 scale 5.33 meter Duo Discus. It's in my garage and has never flown. Has 2 blemishes on a wing from shipping which are easily repaired with some monokote. This is the version with the sheeted wings. Retract installed. Scale canopy and cockpit prepared for scale finish. Get a great glider at a great price regardless of the Euro exchange rate, and the plane is already in SoCal. I am asking $2750 obo. I can possibly deliver to the Visalia Spring Aerotow or the JR Aerotow (need to know by Monday). Picture from the former EMS website: http://tinyurl.com/5onp3x I can send pictures of the actual plane this weekend upon request. Please contact me at fdeichsel at hotmail dot com. _ Stay in touch when you're away with Windows Live Messenger. http://www.windowslive.com/messenger/overview.html?ocid=TXT_TAGLM_WL_Refresh_messenger_052008
Re: [RCSE] Initial CG on a scratch ship...
Title: Initial CG on a scratch ship... That is a good start for the CG, but the other part of the equation is the horizontal stab. How big is the tail, how far from the wing is it it and what is the decalage? Here's something worthwhile reading: http://www.fatlion.com/sailplanes/decalage.html Is this a scale ship?? Frank - Original Message - From: George Voss To: 'Douglas, Brent' ; soaring@airage.com Sent: Thursday, April 20, 2006 12:20 PM Subject: RE: [RCSE] Initial CG on a scratch ship... You need to find the MAC or Mean Aerodynamic Chord, which is the average chord. Assuming a straight leading edge and a tapered TE, if its a straight taper , measure the root, add the tip and divide by 2. That is the average chord. So, make a mark 8 back from the LE and thats the average chord. 30% of 8 is 2.4, just like you calculated. Id start there. If the TE has more than one taper, you will need to take into that into account. George Voss From: Douglas, Brent [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Thursday, April 20, 2006 12:39 PMTo: soaring@airage.comSubject: [RCSE] Initial CG on a scratch ship... Just trying to get a rough idea where to start here, what formula you might use to come up with a starting CG . Picture a 200 inch wing, root chord about 11 inches, tip about 5, straight leading edge, tapering TE. Modern airfoil, HQ 2.5, 12 - 10 percent thick. My thought was to go mid span, take some percentage of the chord there, then mark the root that far back - example: 30% of 8" becomes 2.4 inches - mark the root at 2.4 inches from the leading edge. 2 questions - how far off is that logic, how far off is 30%? I'm towing this ship for the first flight, so I'd like to be pretty close, erring to the nose heavy side. Thanks!Brent
Re: [RCSE] Re: NiCad powered winch for DLGs, Anyone built one?
There is one that Robbe produces. Go to http://at.robbe-online.net/rims_at.storefront/en and type in 5088 in the search. A little pricey. You can probably make one for a lot less. Re: [RCSE] 1/3 ASW-20 by Dream Catcher/Mark Smith Info Needed
Thanks George, yes I have thought about that. I am pondering though what thickness the cores are designed for. I have never cut cores but I know that the thickness of the intended sheeting is considered (deducted) so that after sheeting the desired airfoil shape is achieved. Or does a millimeter more or less not matter that much? It's an older airfoil anyway, FX60-126 if I remember correctly. The obechi we get here in the US is going to be pretty thin on a 5M wing unless you have a substantial spar system. Have you thought of using 2 layers of the thin obechi? Unfortunately there are no plans included and I need to know what thickness obechi the wing cores are cut for. I did some research but no success. The common thickness for sheeting seems to be 1/42 here, but from what I found that seems to be too thin for a 5 meter wing. There is a wing made by Mueller in Germany in the same size which is sheeted with 1.2 mm which is roughly twice as thick. Any info would be appreciated! Frank

[RCSE] Find Slopes and TD Fields with Google Earth!
Amazing program to download for free. Image and terrain data, allows zooming, tilting, bookmarking etc. I remember buying CDs full of satellite images with much worse resolution and no other features... http://earth.google.com/ If you have a high speed internet connection, it's worth checking out. And as the message title indicates, this is surely soaring related :-) You can find out if a potential slope site is accessible and from which street. The program indicates the terrain elevation under the mouse pointer very precisely. Frank (Subscribed for a long time and finally another post) RCSE-List facilities provided by Model Airplane News. Re: [RCSE] Assembly instructions for the Multiplex LS-7 sailplane
Boy, Multiplex must have been once again ahead of everyone else, considering the LS-7 fullscale didn't fly until 1987 Ok, models usually fly before the full size verison, but if I remember correctly, MPX didn't come out with the model until the mid nineties. Could it be you are thinking of an LS-3? I had one of those, wingspan was 3.24m which is bigger than the LS-7. [RCSE] Wanted: Multiplex Antenna
I goofed this last weekend and broke my stainless steel antenna of my Multiplex Profi 3030. Anybody out there who can sell me one? Does not have to be the stainless steel one, could be the stock one. I have tried Ernie. I have tried Hitec, they directed me to Hobbyhorse who are out of stock. Thanks, Frank
Re: [RCSE] Wanted: Multiplex Antenna
Well, I already have a smiley short antenna. The thing is, I don't trust that one when flying my scale ship at aero tow events. Has anyone had any problems at all with the smiley? From what I have heard, the range with the smiley is about 1/2 of the OEM antenna, which *should* be fine but I don't like to experiment with my scale glider. Thanks, Frank - Original Message - From: glide To: 'Frank Deichsel' ; 'RCSE posting' Sent: Friday, March 18, 2005 4:56 PM Subject: RE: [RCSE] Wanted: Multiplex Antenna I just received an OEM antenna from Hobby Horse. I have a feeling that I may just goof also and would be left with no antenna. I heard that the Smiley rubber antenna may work with the MPX transmitter (the one with the adapter not the screw on one like the Stylus). The Becker one is about $60 but is really well made and supposes to suit the MPX transmitters just fine. I wish the world was a different place. J. Roe USA Sadly John, the world is a different place. It became one at 0946 EDT on September 11, 2001. Bill John and all, Bill and John and all: To make the world a different place is exactly the goal of I don't want to know how many people who want to turn this planet into Allah's. These fundamentalists are the minority in the islamic world (let's hope), but I have no idea what could be a cure against people who are willing to kill themselves and take as many non-believers as possible with them, believing that if they die in the holy war that they would go to heaven directly. What worries me most is how apparently easy it was for them to take out the US, without the use of weapons or even bombs. Realizing that each plane fueled up in the sky can be abused as a weapon that easy is scary, and who knows if the terrorists even had to smuggle any weapons on board? What will be a security improvement that could prevent this from happening again? Will it be enough to take out Bin Laden, if they could ever hunt him down? Where is the enemy? How much of a threat are all the people dancing in the streets when they see the US in chaotic, burning disaster? Are most of those pictures propaganda and in real life those fathers, mothers and children know better? It is scary. I just heard that military forces in San Diego are on 'delta 3' alert, which is one level below war status. I wanted to schedule the Cessna over the phone this morning to go on a cross country flight when the flight school told me I probably won't go anywhere in a plane today or maybe even the next couple of days, I should just turn on the news. Ironically when I was on my motorcycle going on the 101 towards Ventura, I thought Well, I have not watched the news today, although I am a little worried about those couple of small earthquakes in LA within the last 48 hours which could be a sign of a bigger one coming soon. I wonder how the freeway would look like if the big disaster really happens... Little did I know that a different kind of disaster had indeed happened. May the victims and families find peace, and may there be justice for the culprits. May it be over with the violence and may the judges have wisdom to not make matters worse.
