[RCSE] re: Laser 2M rudder-fin size

2007-12-04 Thread Frank Jarratt
The full size drawing of the built-up (movable) portion of the Rudder
for the NSP 2M Laser measures 9 11/16" tall at the hinge line, 2 3/16"
wide at top, and 3" wide at the bottom.

Re: [RCSE] Keep RCSE and a soaring related item.

2007-11-08 Thread Frank Jarratt
I had the remote receiver on a 6200 to fail a quick ground test, but its
light was on. It was broadcasting with sharply reduced power. (Horizon
replaced the receivers.) We may need to test (off the ground) on at
least two axis (front and side) before flying each day to catch any
problems with two receivers.

Frank Jarratt

I have personally benefited from the hundreds of suggestions
offered by members of RCSE. Thanks to Mike for all his work over the
years. Please keep it going.

Soaring related: Several months ago I install a 2.4 system in my
Super AVA. I use a DX7 transmitter, a RD 9000 receiver with the
satellite receivers installed in the center section outboard of the
spoilers. This system has worked flawlessly until last week.
Following an uneventful high start launch, I experienced intermittent
control problems with the system locking out or rebooting as some
say. I was able to land the model safely and do some trouble
shooting. I immediately noticed that one of the satellite receivers
did not have a light on. The other one did. Of course the main
receiver is buried in the fuse and does not receive any signal because
of CF/Kevlar construction.

Rebinding the system to the transmitter reactivated the
inoperative satellite and the system has functioned successfully at
altitudes of 2000 feet and to limits of my visual range.

For me this illustrated the necessity of installing the satellite
receivers so that their operation can be verified by observing the light.

Of course this may be obviated with the new 2.4 friendly AVA pods.

Long live RCSE!

Re: [RCSE] Servo Reversing

2006-07-13 Thread Frank Jarratt
How does this work? Does the power lead stays on the same pin and just
reverse the other two (signal) leads?

be available?

Re: [RCSE] Contests, Landings, etc.

2004-09-27 Thread Frank Jarratt
Rather than longer flight tasks, why not shorten the launch lines?
800'-1,000 ' lines seems like overkill with the planes we have today.
Can you fly day one at 700' and day two at 500'? Or would the plane
redesign just offset it?

Anyone competing this Summer with the NSP Extreme DP R? Experience? The

Re: [RCSE] Omega 2M from Northeast Sailplane

2001-09-20 Thread Frank Jarratt

> Does anyone out there have any experience with assembly, setup and flying of the
>Omega 2M from NESP?

I finished mine last night, and hope to fly this weekend.

I reinforced the front wing mount and tied both the front and rear wing mounts to a
long towhook block, since I want to try ballast.
This arrangement should also allow the wing mount to carry more of the stress from the
launch. (The rear wing mount has 1/4" plywood
block under the wing. I did the same in the front, then added a simple plywood
bulkhead that extends from where the wing plugs in
front, down to the towhook block. I added a similar bulkhead under the rear wing
mount.)

Wing servos are a problem. The Omega 2M has thin airfoil and LARGE control surfaces. I
used Volz Micro Maxx for the flaps, and
HS-81MG for the ailerons. I had to grind away some rib area to make room. The servos
are glued onto 1/32" plywood that is expoxyed
to the wing. Servos are covered with M&M Glidertech servo patches. The finished height
of both sets of servos is about 1MM too high
to mount flush with the wing surface. The produce a slight bump under the patches. I
considered the new JR micro digital servos. Any
suggestions for next time?

Re: [RCSE] Focus 3- FM or AM

2000-11-02 Thread Frank Jarratt

My Highlander/Focus 3 AM setup came with HS-81 servos. I suggest you get
servos with metal gears. The Highland is built to 'bounce'. I broke a
lot of plastic servo gears initially @ $3.95 a set. I ended up using the
HS-85MG servos. Then I just broke the micro control arms!

I would recommend the plane to any Novice.
