I have an application where I used an Airtronics 94401 Servo which has gone
bad.

Does anyone out there have a 401 that they would part with?

It does not have to have good gears (used to be the weak link) as long as it
runs.

Re: [RCSE] stuck on mandrel

2006-11-15 Thread Larry Storie
I use 1 layer of waxed paper followed by 1 layer of Glad Wrap (or equivalent
both out of the kitchen cupboard), wrapped around a piece the o.d. of the
ballast but longer, then roll the wetted fiberglass on.

The waxed paper will not stick to the mandrel and the Glad Wrap will not
stick to the epoxy and will pull out easily.

Instead of mylar, use a thin release film spiral wrapped around the
mandrel. You should be able to pull out the mandrel then pull out the
release film. You can use steel rods if you want something more
consistent than a dowel.

Jimmy Prouty wrote:

Hi Tony,

Did you spiral wrap the mylar over the mandrel? I've found that I can
grab the mylar with a pair of duck bill pliers and gently wrap the mylar
around them to pull it out of the tube. It sticks once in a while but I
can usually reach in and pull the stuck piece out with hemostats.

Happy flying,

Jimmy

What would the tasks have been if LSF had been born on the East Coast?
LSF was formed as a local California group to promote sailplane flying
back in 1969 and the achievement tasks were developed to suit local
conditions that allowed long thermal flights, long slope flights, and lots
of wide open spaces for cross country. At that time, the other major
group promoting soaring was the East Coast Soaring Society. Imagine what
tasks ECSS would have developed for the weak lift, wooded hills and
tree lined roads of Pennsylvania, New York, and New England.

[RCSE] Congrats to Johnny Berlin's Level V Goal and Return today

2006-09-04 Thread Larry Storie

Congrats to Johnny for completing his LSF Level V
Goal and return Today

Johnny was up to the Traverse City LIFT Field this
weekend and attempted the Level V Goal and Return Sat, Sun, and was successful
today.  It's a tuff course up here but can be done when things work right
and he got out on course today about the only time the air on the whole course
was working and he flew it expertly.

The condition changed just as finished and no other
attempt could be made by the other level 4's.

Crew included Harry DeBoer, Larry Jefferys, Butch's
spirit, and myself, and Peter Baumeler & LeeAnn support at the field and Joe
Riley a (new soaring) pilot riding shotgun for the experience.

I'll leave the flight details to
Johnny.

I too will miss Butch, however there was one day, for a while, about 10+
years ago he almost didn't make it another day, when he lifted his leg on my
obechie (white) painted wing. That plane had its badge of Butch to its
death.

Butch I / we will miss you.

Sincere sympathies to Johnny

Hey I had one of those! I love that thin, low aspect ratio wing with
those huge flaps. Mine had a black bottom wing surface and white/
intense
yellow on top and on the tail feathers, pretty plane. After a couple
of
brief, late evening preliminary flights, we went out for our local
Sunday

fly and I was gonna do some serious tuning to get it set up. I remember
the first couple of flights were rough, I didn't have the CG anywhere
near right and throws and flap/elevator compensation wasn't weren't even
close. With each flight it got better and better. Finally, on the 6th
flight I popped a good launch, everything was working really well and I
hit some good lift. It flew really well. It wasn't long before I had it
way up there and way out there, but the colors made it quite visible. I
had two friends right next to me when one suggested that I was quite a
ways out there and I had better start thinking about coming home, and I
agreed. With the three of us watching the plane I started a big lazy
turn with the flaps down a tad, enough to slow me down a little bit and
the plane disappearedjust vanished.

I looked for the rest of that day, and most of the next. A farmer found
it a year later. Bummer. I liked that thin, low aspect ratio wing and
those nice big flaps. I don't suppose anyone has one in a box just
sorta

lying about
