Re: [RCSE] charge plug on/off parts

I've heard from a few people that these systems can
cause shorts.  Could they be wired backwards...I know from audio stuff that
it's OK to connect one lead (+ or -, I forget which) before the
other.

Anyone have a parts list or link to a simple

[RCSE] repair molded wing?

2001-04-11 Thread Martin Cleary

I lost my servo connection on a RnR moldi and a bad thing happened. The
fuse is a dog toy. One of the wings got munched near the root. The shape
is still there but it now has undesirable softness to it. Is there a link
that demos repairs to this stuff? Thank you

[RCSE] cutting ailerons in composit wing

2001-05-14 Thread Martin Cleary

Ok, I've had marginal success with my first
composite over blue foam bagging project.  I'll soon need to cut out my
ailerons...What is the best method  of doing this.  I used 2 layers of
1.4 oz glass and a layer of 80/20 carbon.  Is there a Dremel bit that will
cut and chamfer(the way they did my mplx Lucky)?  Thanks guys

I am having fun making wings with the foam cutter I

[RCSE] adding flaps to molded wing

2002-02-24 Thread Martin Cleary

I have a Nemesis that I am getting ready to
reassemble after destroying the original fuse.  I'd like to add flaps to
the (hollow molded) wing witch currently is built with ailerons
only.  I love flying, but dread high speed landings.  I just
built a wing with flaps for a Renegade and love landing it.  Is it feasible
to add flaps?

Thanks

Re: [RCSE] adding flaps to molded wing

2002-02-26 Thread Martin Cleary

got this one off-line. Cut the flaps just like
you would with a foam core, the wing isn't sacred...its yours.It won't
hurt the strength as there is very little force on the trailing
edge.Just use tape hinge and don't get nuts about the
gap.

I was going to use a razor saw and try to end up
with a living hinge.  I am hoping that there is a layer of Spectra or
peel-ply in there to act as the hinge.  I used peel-ply on my Renegade wing
and it worked great.

[RCSE] hotbox for bagging, post or concurrent

2002-03-06 Thread Martin Cleary

I read Fred S's post re
3m77-interesting.
Regarding the hotbox.  I have heard that the
heat treatment should be done after the epoxy has cured from one source and
another said do the treatment while the epoxy is setting up.  Just looking
for input.  My current method is to just throw an electric blanket over the
bag and let it cook for a day or so.  If I can find some dead shop space, I
may build a box.

The Radio Shack unit called for on the Charles River site works quite well
and is very inexpensive. Be sure to use a fan speed control and not a light
dimmer.

Re: [RCSE] Power supply for foam -What do I need?

2002-04-07 Thread Martin Cleary

Thanks Ed,
The dimmer that I choose did not work. You are right, it boils down to the
rating on the controller. My guess is that there is a lower bottom
end(rating) on dimmers as opposed to the speed controllers. For the benefit
of the readers, do you recall which dimmer your club is using? It seems
that the dimmers are at a lower price point.

[RCSE] Source for wire harness mtls

2002-12-08 Thread Martin Cleary
I'm a bit frustrated with the cost of wiring components via the local
dealer. I can appreciate the cost involved in a slow moving inventory...but
$6 for a 6 inch servo extension...
I'd like to make my own wiring harnesses. Is there a good source for bulk
connectors and the proper wire? Also, does it require a special crimper or
can they be effectively soldered? Thanks
Martin
btw-I do try to patronize local people for obvious reasons. As self
indulgent as this hobby is, I need to make best efforts to control the costs

[RCSE] newer 6 ch hitec w futaba 8u tx

2003-01-18 Thread Martin Cleary

Ive been out of the game for a while...I need a rx
for a 6 ch (2 flap) a/c that will work with my Futaba 8u.  Will the newer 6
channel work from hitec?  It looks like it's made similar to the 555 which
has always been a winner.  Another way to phrase the question: Do I
need a channel 7 to run two flaps with my Futaba 8u?

Thanks

The hitec 6 channel will work fine as will the superslim 8.
Personally I'd buy the SS8 in case you want to swap it later in it's
  life.  gvMartin Cleary wrote:
