Warning, Blatant Commercial...

I sell them at www.magtechinc.net. They come pre programmed for the RC
channels and have an extra 3 page manual describing exactly how to use them
for RC so you don't have to read the 50 page manual.

I'm in the process of negotiating a better deal from Icom so hopefully the
price will drop a bit. If you order now and I get a price break before it
ships, I'll include a refund. It's not mentioned on the web sight, but I
can take CC's.

I sell several of these each month and the response has been very positive.

Thomas, you raise a good question. Unless you are familiar with a given
area, there is no way to know, and AMA does not have any maps. The best
thing to do is get a little ICOM-R2. I use mine even when I am at an AMA
site.

[RCSE] MC-24 IS legal at NATs

I've contacted JR, the FCC and the AMA...

AMA: Any legal radio is allowed.

FCC: Any radio is legal with any module approved by the FCC as a stand

JR: The JR modules have been FCC approved as stand alone modules. The FCC
does not approve changing the crystal in the module.

The Graupner MC-24 with a US JR module is legal unless one of the above is

Re: [RCSE] Charging NiMh's with Sirius Pro Charger?

2001-03-20 Thread Ralph Weaver

The charging chip in the Sirius chargers was made to do NiMH as well as
NiCd cells. This chip is the best one available for charging cells that
are used at low currents like RX and TX batteries.

It has a much more sophisticated algorithm than any other charger chip. It
stops just before the peak and then does a "top off" charge. Much better
for NiMH than a peak detect.

[RCSE] TX Antenna length

2000-09-28 Thread Ralph Weaver

Hello all,

I just got my Graupner MC-24 and it has a 56" antenna where my other radios
have about a 36" antenna. I assume this is because my MC-24 was originally

Should I use the 56" antenna or a 36" antenna with it on 72MHz?

Thanks.

No, PPM goes into berserk mode long before a PCM radio will go into
hold. And both radios will come back under control about the same
time. PCM radios typically have a frame rate that is about 10msec slower

Would the standard Sirius charger work well for charging a 7 cell

a question of sensitivity to the delta peak, and that my CG 325

Sirius Pro and Sirius 100 are not really
delta-peak chargers. They stop right at
the peak, not past it. I conclude this
from watching the NiCd pack voltage after
each current burp at the end of the charge.

So the weak post-peak voltage drop of NiMH
should not be an issue. The Sirius chargers
don't even look for the drop.

The Sirius charger that I have uses the Galaxy Power charger chip which was
designed to do NiMH as well as NiCd. It uses voltage slope termination and
cuts off when the voltage slope (not the voltage) peaks. Since voltage
slope stops at about 80-90% of full capacity, the chip then goes into a
times "top-off" mode. The method is great for NiCd and NiMH that are uses
at low current, like receivers and transmitters.

A charger with an 18 cell capacity will allow you to charge two 8 cell

That won't work unless the two 8 cell packs are in an identical state of
