[RCSE] LSF - a personal achievement program for Don Quixote?
The LSF is said to be a personal achievement program. If this is so, how come you have to beat 20 (at level 5) other people in a contest as a requirement? Not exactly personal. With the number of interested parties declining in R/C soaring, and the current structure requiring some number of contestants (defeated) being the metric of the contesting component of the LSF, it seems unlikely that the program will grow. More realistically, it will decline as the necessity to seek out a contest with enough contestants just isn't practical or maybe even possible in most of the country. And it's been that way for a long time. We have the choice of ride it till it dies or adapt and overcome. Soaring is fun because of the lack of rules. Contesting injects both structure and rules and is fine for those of us who need it. But for anything, a program, a sport or a government to survive, it must adapt to suit those involved. In my opinion, if the LSF (task structure philosophy) remains arrogant enough to decline change, in the end the accomplishment program will either be ignored or just won't exist. D.O. [RCSE] MAC - long and off topic (I can't help myself)
I've put up with a lot of different kinds of machines and software during the last 30 years. The truth is that most all computers are a pain in the ass, and, as far as what computers did or didn't do ten, twenty or more years ago... who cares? It's irrelevant. All do about the same things NOW. Windows machines are cheap and work OK but require a LOT of OS (operating system) maintenance. Macs are very dependable and do things very well but fewer software titles are available - which is OK, cause most folks use only Email and Browsers anyway. New Macs will run windows software. Macs cost about twice as much as a comparable windows machine but require very little OS maintenance at all... which begs the question How much is my time worth. When I can afford it, I'm getting a dual core Mac and will phase out as many (Windows) programs as possible. Those programs which will run only under Windows can still be run on this Mac, however. Like my parents said: When they declared WAR on POVERTY, We surrendered we had enough! With Windows, It is and will always be the S-O-S, and I've had enough. I now recommend Macs to most non-gearheads (ya know, normal people, unlike most of us). I do not hate Microsoft nor Windows but just don't wan't to waste time maintaining computers anymore. [RCSE] assisted soaring, etc
Daryl doesn't remember thermal sensors cause he's too young. But I never thought listening for lift made a lot of sense, anyway, and have seen guys flub around in otherwise good air cause they were listening rather than watching. I still have one of the old units designed by Walt Good, which i bought in 73. I don't use it though as I got tired of it whistling in my ear. Besides, the unit didn't discriminate very much. More trouble than it was worth. I my opinion.Picolario's are just a variant... just more stuff to bother with. While it might be an advantage to have one (if the user is otherwise proficient) such devices, as they exist now, will probabily only distract the average flyer (if there are any). A positive example of technology helping is mixing in transmitters... Gyros for copters, etc... things that if not used would make multi-function ships and coptors VERY difficult to fly, and if not available, would prevent lots of flyers doing what they enjoy. Witness the growth in helicoptors since the gyro and control boards. Since memory and microprocessors are now stamp-sized (no pun intended) and micro GPS, etc are available, it is inevitable that this technology will eventually be incorporated into our stuff. At the other extreme, we have all the those who want to fly Purist class OK with me, but again, a different thing all together. (Like fly-fishing versus Bass-fishing) New technology? Bring it on. [RCSE] old models lying around
I thought Id ask a simple question here to see if anyone has a non-obvious answer... Having been in R/C for thirty years, I have quite a collection of inactive or need-fixin models which I dont want to spend the time fixing and or finishing. So, I am looking to get rid of them. Of course its obvious that one can sell desirable models but there are unused, unfixed, or unfinished stuff that collects in the closet or garage until it gets to the point that well, theres no more room! Im sure many of us have the same problem? For example, I have a 40 sized, scratch built power ship that I flew back in the late 80s thats in-tact, but uncovered and needs attention. I paid over $300 for the bare ship so just dont want to just throw it away. I've also got several small gliders, some other gas models, some old scale kits, slope stuff, etc, etc. I'm not looking to sell this stuff cause it's really old, but I dont want to trash it either. Anyone have any good ideas about how this stuff can find a good home? Thanks in advance. D.O. RCSE-List facilities provided by Model Airplane News. [RCSE] LSF....can I get a witness?
All Right, Gordy! I was cognotating the other day about you and the LSF. I am #249 having aspired very early in the program, a couple months or so after it was created. I have finished everything for level 5 except a couple of my contests and, of course the 8-hour slope, which I probably will never do. But it struck me as kind of wierd that you, someone who has flown for years and is already an expert, be interested in pursuing a program which, as you said, was designed to incrementally make a novice more and more proficient. Although you do have an audience out here (albeit, a very small one :) ) I'd watch what you are saying. The possible results are that you will get a bunch of kids interested in our sport, flood the field with novices and stir up all that LSF stuff again. I urge you to consider the results of your actions! As if RCSE-List facilities provided by Model Airplane News. [RCSE] “Death of a club”
“Rumors of my death are greatly exaggerated” - Mark Twain Tulsoar (Tulsa R/C Soaring Club) has been around since 1973 when I and another couple of guys founded it. We have had, in thirty-three years, several flying fields and losing the use of one has historically, been only been a temporary inconvenience. Fact is, we still have several flying sites, and are still blessed with the availability of several compliant sod farms in the area. Since now there are only 5 or 6 active flyers, a flying location is not really the issue. However, to have a “real” club, of course involves having club events, and the requisite number of hot bodies to affect those things necessary to hold events just isn’t available most of the time. One of the problems facing entrance into ours or any other hobby/sport… I’m talking about youngsters here… is the cost. Contemporary competitive aircraft have tripled in cost in the last ten years. I used to joke with Tim Renaud about the possibility in the future of the $1000 glider. Well guess what folks? A grand would be a bargain oday. Additinally, most youngsters are cyber-oriented and have a short attention spans. “quicker and cheaper”. Only a small percentage of flyers actually build anything any more, opting for factory-built rather than the kit approach. This makes what used to be a relatively inexpensive hobby rather pricey What used to involve craftsmanship, engineering and perseverance has, for the most part given way to instant gratification resulting in the general demise of the satisfaction of flying something you built yourself. This perhaps is where the real death occurred: To little time, too little money, too many options. But time and trends change. I still love to fly in club events and other contests and will continue to do so. But I also enjoy slipping my AVA off a high start at 300 feet launch in the early evening and floating around at leisure. And, I love electrics of all kinds. Tulsoar will always exist and any time two or more of us are together, we are still a club. We may not have many events, maybe only two or three guys getting together and having a good time, but isn’t that really what it’s all about? RCSE-List facilities provided by Model Airplane News. [RCSE] Why are so many guys unsubscribing?
Why are folks unsubscribing? It's probably because they use TEXT ONLY format, (the requested and proper way for this type of forum) and are very, very tired wading thru HTML, headers, TO: lists, and other unusable garbage. I love to read Gordy, cause the man's got soul, but he too is another MIME. :) AOL isn't controllable, according to users. Cant turn MIME off? Can't turn Gordy off either, come to think of it! I think the digest-format is best cause it's fastest when scanning and skipping. Threaded forums )RCUSERS) are OK for more granular information, but I don't read any so I may be missing the point. Whatever. IMHO, Outlook just plane sucks: (to many bells for the average, at-home user and VERY hackable). Because of the wah the Internet works, we DON'T need pictures or attachments in our kind of forum. If you want to post pictures, etc, you should put em on your own web page/site and put the URL in the RCSE message. Those who want to look can and the rest are not burdened with unwanted content. Speaking of which, about 70% of the RCSE message traffic is now unusable (HTML). We don't need all the fat going back and forth and I'm not really interested in work-arounds. May this it the reason? Maybe not. Just my .02 RCSE-List facilities provided by Model Airplane News. [RCSE] flap servos
I have used Airtronics 94141s at flap on many ships over the years with great success. I have even replaced Volz micromaxs in one of my Heras and think the 141 worked better although. The newer Volz servos are probably better. The only problem with 141s that I ever encountered was an axle hogging out the case causing slop (after a LONG time) but this is easily remedied with a new case replacement (cheap). If you DO use digitals, use ALL digitals: Mixing analog and digitals might not be a good idea, but you could probably get an argument to the contrary. If you don't need thin servos, the 94141s are as good as any other servo available for flap, or any other surface for that matter. [RCSE] Most fun plane.
Happy Holidays to RCSE patrons! Last season was a blast for me and Here's hoping that next year is as good as this last one has been. My most fun plane this season was my AVA. I'ts been more fun flying this ship than it has been since I and a couple of other guys had NEW (one of the 6 prototypes) Grand Esprits (1973?) and no one else did! And, it was about time, too. Seems like soaring was getting less fun until this model came along. It would seem that some of the newer, less complicated machines are bringing back some of the enjoyment I used to feel when things were less complicated. Anyway Happy Holidays to RCSE patrons and our sponsor Air Age! Last season was a blast for me and Here's hoping that next year is as good as this last one has been. -- Regards: D. O. [RCSE] Winch technology
Hi, Eddie I'm also interested in improving winch design. I've recently resurected an old one I built in the mid 70's. We had really small drum diameters (and widths) then probably because we were not using 350# test line! Anyway, Im a computer/electronics experimentor type and am toying with the idea of controlling the winch and retriever motors with microcontroller-aided foot pedals and switches, etc. In any event, I'm beginning to assimilate data about various designs. I would appreciate a list of those you know to be involved in winch technology. And, if there's anything I might do for you, just say so. Later; Regards: D. O. P.S. I want to get higher too! [RCSE] Forums, etc
Forums are typically divided by topic. For instance, RCU etc, have topic (threads) for aircraft, boats, etc, and topics within topics aircraft/sailplanes, airplanes/gas, airplanes/quarter scale, etc. It's like Windows and all those damn directories you must traverse to get to what you want to see. I get enough of THIS stuff just working. RCSE on the other hand is what you might call a niche topic whose main thrust covers thermal duration machines and, more recently, electric soaring machines. Of course there are certainly sub-categories within TD, but do we really need to get SO specialized that we need separate areas for batteries, programming JRs, foamie combat, etc? Obviously not. We who are not into these special sub-areas put up with posts on these subjects (anyway) for the sake of free speech , and rightly so. We are also free to openly argue, which is the right of all. Sure, when anyone can state an opinion, (no matter how stupid) we just take it with a grain of salt. We do put up with a lot of nonsense, stupid questions, and Gordy, all in the same place. Imagine if you couldn't flame Sol, Etiene, Gordy or Karlton, ...whomever: Bummer, huh? In short, RCSE is what MOST of us are comfortable with. If you really want to get into a forum, there are several around. Join, start a thread and knock yourself out! But the digest version of RCSE certainly serves MY needs as I can pick and choose and then skip over if necessary without the penalty (in my opinion) of the imposition of a formal structure. There's just to much structure in the world already. So, MY vote is to leave RCSE the hell alone! I'm with you Michael! Keep the Good Thing going! D.O. [RCSE] Watches and other stuff?
I can't help but be amused at Gordy's latest spoutings: This concerns the watches he was selling. The quote was: If you guys want a programmable watch but don't want to spend 3 times as much for the quality of the Seiko, these work just fine. It is amusing it you change programmable watch to servos , Seiko to V*** and these to Airtronics, JR, or HiTECH.. (He he he!)
[RCSE]
Okay D.O. :-) So you pulled some nose weight and it seems like a lotBut no where do I state or have mentioned that pulling a lot of nose weight has anything to do 20 with 'balancing' your sailplane. Jeese, Gordy: You get so defensive when given credit!! What I was saying concerning my BoT was that instead of adding nose weight to kill the bobbing, I removed weight as suggested in your article and used more down trim. Nothing more, nothing less. I also said that the things I did (moving bat and rx) moved the CG back 3/4 from where it was. These statements were information only... not instructional. A response to a query from another modeler shared with everyone. My plane flew better. That's what I said. That's what the plane did. There is only ONE way to check the balance of a sailplane, and that's by=20 flying it inverted. You'll forgive me as I declined to fly the ship upside down; I don't feel it's necessary. I don't think it's necessary for full-sized sailplanes either! Some might interpret some statements as to imply that weight is always the enemy. Clearly, this is not the case. Many times, it is necessary to add ballast to penetrate in windy conditions. Where I fly, we do so frequently. Making you ship lighter overall, isn't always the answer to better performance, especially when the winds get above 10 mph or so. Sometimes a heavier wing loading is also beneficial in other situations. I routinely fly with 4oz ballast in my SuperV 2M. . When it's really windy, like in Wichita, Ks, I use 8 oz. I never fly it dry because it just doesn't fly as well, regardless of where the CG is placed.

RE: [RCSE] BC6 and LED strips
Oops I stand corrected: I have reviewed the BC6 manual as published at http://www.yntdesign.com/ but found the Installation, Operation, About Glitches and Specifications links inoperative. I incorrectly deduced the requirement for a PC due to the presence of the blue connector which i thought was an external serial connector of some type. Since the mentioned pages were unavailable, I had no other information to go by. The page I could read says that the device records the lowest voltage encountered during the latest episode. That information may then be evaluated (without external equipment) and then a decision made as to whether to fly or charge. The LED strip on the other hand only tells you the voltage NOW. Whichever you find more informative is a matter for personal choice. As for locating a lost plane, that's a very good feature I failed to mention. As for the number of glitches, what's too many? How many is inconsequential? George Steiner has a circuit in his book on R/C electronics published several years ago which is a glitch recorder. I found the circuit interesting but of little practical value in the real world. Perhaps others have additional information they would like to share on glitch recording or voltage reading after the fact. I however, have no more to say about this having blurted out the extent of my meager knowledge on the subject. I do however stand corrected about the necessity of using external equipment with the BC6 and apologize for any confusion I may have caused now or at any time in the future. At 01:02 PM 6/18/2003 -0400, you wrote: D.O., Your reply is INCORRECT...The BC6 is a self-contained unit that DOES NOT require a PC or any additional equipment in order to access the voltage state, number of glitches, or help in locating a down plane. I believe that you may have the BC6 Flight Monitor confused with the ALTi2 Altitude Data Logger. ALL voltage checks should be done at a spare RX plug (etc) while the RX and TX are both turned on. This is the condition under which the battery is operating. All other measurements are irrelevant, unless measuring capacity (which is a different thing all together.) I have used the led strips successfully for several years. If its (the relative voltage reading) not in the top two greens, I hook up to my Sirius for ~ 15 minutes, every other flight. (my flights are usually 7-10 minutes). At the price of $10 each (or so) is makes good sense to stick one inside every ship you have. (the led strip, not a Sirius) Enough about that. Sport Tubes : Maybe we should call these liars tubes as we seem to be prevaricating about contents. Possibly we need to fess up to the airlines and ask the real question, thereby obtaining a statement that can be published and used as needed when negotiating with airlines personnel (who have blackbelts in customer management). Another consideration is what might happen if one does lie and gets caught. Being detained by the FBI (or some other organization there are several) might make one rethink the snowboard fib ploy. A snowboard keychain?. You gotta be kidding! D. O. Darnell ** World's Smallest Airtronics Dealer ** http://www.dozone.net/airtronics_equipment.htm

[RCSE] removing old monokote and other unwanted stuff
Don't use paper towels as they tend to disperse acetone rather quickly. rather use an old t-shirt or equivalent cloth which retains wetness and is thus more effective. On fuselages or larger surfaces, use a non-plastic paint brush (bristle, metal and wood) and just paint then wipe the surface to remove paint, monokote color remnants, etc. Paper is ok here as you'll need a lot of it. Also, do it outside! D. O. Darnell ** World's Smallest Airtronics Dealer ** http://www.dozone.net/airtronics_equipment.htm

[RCSE] PDF format, LSF mailings
PDF's offer several advantages. Many of us create documents using Microsoft Word which features spell checking, inclusion of graphics, annotation, fonts, colors, etc, and in general, all modern text-editing features and facilities. However, not everyone has Word or Windows for that matter (in deference to LUNIX users). PDF's offer a platform-independent distribution scheme using a free reader that anyone can download. Windows .doc files readily convert to PDFs using ACROBAT and other freeware packages. You can get the ADOBE READER free so what's the problem? I't really great for those of us who write documentation and need to easily distibute it on the net. BUT, in my humble opinion, the idea of (the LSF) emailing PDF documents TO people is silly. If the LSF has a document it wishes it's members or others to see, it need only publish the document to a web site and then post the fact that such a document is available for downloading. Web sites are cheap. Disk space is cheap. PDFs should be a PULLed item: NOT PUSHED. If we want it, we'll download it! That's the whole idea of the Internet. We go where we want and read what we want to. I don't really like anyone sending me anything. Those who copy and email stuff over and over and over (like a lot of stuff on this forum) need to get a clue! We waste enough time and space already. Leave it up to the individual to download the document should he wish to read it. Otherwise, it's just junk mail. Just my opinion D. O. [RCSE] wing tape
Hi, Dave; We used to use a clear tape permanently attached to the root (about 1 wide) to eliminate the covering from being pulled loose by the attaching tape. (The attaching tape sticks down on top of the permanent tape.) For the permanent tape we used SlickTac which was used to make decals but is probably no longer available. However, any clear, high-tack tape (you don't want IT to peel off) will do. I like Scotch 600, for example but almost any will do. It's amazing how many clear tapes there are out there! Wrap the permanent tape all the way around the root. Then during each flying session, use 3M vinyl tape which holds well but is also easily removable. Hope this helps! Regards; D. O. [RCSE] RCSE back Issues
Hi, All I've got a stack of about 150 RCSD's 1987 up through Sept 2000. Most issues included, a few missing. I, like many others, learned what the big guys were doing and the latest tips and tricks from within the pages of the Radio Control Soaring Digest. I even contributed a few articles. This little mag is unique in the world. I've read and reread the issues many times. They have been living in a corner of my shop and need a new home. If you care to review the history of R/C Soaring in the U.S., this is the definitive source. I was going to write a book, but don't seem to have the time. Maybe you do. Here's the info you need to help you do it. If you have any interest in them, please make me an offer. I'm definatly going to sell them to the highest bidder. I'm thinking that winning bid will be in the $50 area. I take MC and VISA as well as PayPal. You'll pay shipping which, I would estimate, to be ~ $10. Sorry for being commercial but I do deal other stuff. Rarely do i digress from shop talk, so I hope to be excused, this time! Regards to all D. O. I use onboard battery voltage indicators (bar-graph type) in all my ships. They are commercially available from $10-14 and usually sold at hobby shops which carry R/C hardware. It's not worth it making them yourself because the parts cost more than the built up unit. I know this cause I built the first one. To build one, it takes a connector, bar-graph led array, a chip and a couple of resistors ... all available at Radio Shack. But by all means, use one in EVERY ship you have. (Cheap insurance!) d.o. [RCSE] Clearance, Clarence!
ACE FIRE SALE OK, I've got too much STUFF and need to make room for walking around in my shop/storage area. I've been using ACE R/C stuff for years but had only used it in legacy birds (mostly power) since I got my Visions back in the early 90's. However, I do have good stuff that I'm not going to be using and thought I put it out on the table for all you ACE lovers to peruse. To wit: I've got a really nice ACE Silver 7 TX, with metal sticks. It's a factory-built unit in excellent condition, very clean and neat. I bought It from Dale Nutter a couple of years ago when I built a Gentle Lady for my wife Maggie. In addition, I have two SS 7-CH RX's, six servos of various ilk, some add-on circuit board mixers, two flat battery pack cases (no cells) , a meter, spare crystals, and manuals for all. PLUS, I have a second unit, which was a prototype for the 8000 computerized unit. This unit also has metal sticks and RF deck, switches, etc. and computer circuit board with LCD display. I haven't fired it up for ten years but I was experimenting with it back then and did fly some gliders with it. I quit using it because I thought the programming model was brain-dead compared to Vision's and others. but that's another story.. and I don't want to get into any fights about philosophy at my age and temperment. ANYWAY..The CPU chip has been removed but it uses a Motorola 68hc11A which costs less than $20 bucks the last time I checked. I also have manuals for this unit (for those of you who REALLY need a challenge.) I worked on this with the software designers prior to ACE's involvement. I have the manuals and magazine articles too, (I think). Even if you didn't get this unit fired up, the sticks and RF deck are worth having. Now while I'm at it, I'm going to throw in a charger and anything else I can find that is associated with Ace stuff (like a jillion servo arms, etc. just kidding) but I do have other stuff, which would fall in the spare parts category. The SS is an AM unit, but who cares? It works just fine and I've never had a problem with it. The frequency might not be to your liking, however as it's on a HAM band at 53.5mhz (Tech or better required) But you might want to convert to FM and put it on 72 anyway so who cares? I'll bet that there is at least ONE person out there who would LOVE to STEAL this stuff from me for $160 (shipping included in cont USA). To make it easy, I take MC and VISA. Hell, the metal sticks are worth at least $20 apiece and you're getting four of them!. Spare me the pile of Email I'm sure to get and just call me. First come first serve. (918) 481-5855. [RCSE] high starts
R.E. Comparative testing of high start(s) .. rubber, etc. I may have missed some comments as this string has run a long time. However, it seems like there is now some talk about doing come comparative testing. There are several aspects to the testing, not the least of which is how good a unit (or whatever you call a single high start) is after it is a couple of years old and has a few hundred launches on it. In other words, one new unit might pull harder that another, but as everyone knows as time goes on, the rubber relaxes eventually providing only a fraction of the original strength. I own two units, one of which is twenty years old. It's strength has been the same for the last decade and is still adequate for OLY II's and such stuff up to ~ 60oz. Two years ago, I bought a unit from NSP which was great at first but seems to lost about 1/2 of it's strength. It will still launch 70oz ships, but instead of the 50-60 paces (to stretch it to the required pull) required when new, it now takes about 100! So if you are going to do testing, consider the domain. At $100+ these are not exactly throw-always. D.O. RCSE-List facilities provided by Model Airplane News. Send "subscribe" and "unsubscribe" requests to [EMAIL PROTECTED]
[RCSE] that's Krystal Klear Karlton!
A typical crystal used in R/C applications (and others, beyond the scope of discussion) has only three important attributes. Resonance: is at what frequency the crystal oscillates. In any manufactured crystal, there is an tolerance, even if it's 1%. Crystals are "ground" to oscillate at a certain frequency, plus or minus some value, bringing us to the second attribute Tolerance: The "perfect" crystal would oscillate at exactly the "desired" frequency for the application. In the real world, the "plus and minus" is applicable so a circuit will (almost) always be operating at some frequency near the desired frequency but within the allowed tolerance, which is one of the reasons we have a 20khz tolerance in the 72mhz band, and 100khz in the 6M band in TX's and trimming capacitors, etc In the RF circuits which are used to adjust the carrier frequency to (ideally) operate at or near the center of these ranges. The Mechanical attribute is it's size whether if it will fit on the circuit board/case and if the pins have the correct diameter and spacing. Other than that, there are no attributes I know of as far as operation goes, except maybe temperature specs (but that's another argument). As far as what specific circuit a manufacturer may use, they all do the same thing: Oscillate. And that's all crystals do too, which is what I said in the first place. Put another way for those who may have misunderstood, I've never seen a crystal with a JR, Futaba or Airtronics logo on them. Have you? How bout yours, Karlton? D. O. [RCSE] Chrystals...
Just some general information, but crystals are like cats. They purr and belong to no one. As for them being "JR", "Airtronics" or BrandX xtals well, that's misleading. Any given brand of radio (TX or RX) requires the crystal to operate (resonate) at a given frequency, but the crystal doesn't "belong" to that (or any) brand. Crystals which fit both mechanically and electrically can be ordered from companies which manufacture and/or supply them, and usually, the customer can specify the application (I.E., JR, AIrtronics...) and the manufacturer will know exactly which frequency and size is needed. I used to order crystals for Ace stuff this way, and never had any problem. If you are interested, you can find sources for xtals and other electronic paraphernalia through publications, etc. A good place to start is: Nuts and Volts magazine. http://www.nutsvolts.com/ RCSE-List facilities provided by Model Airplane News. [RCSE] Hinge tape sources
For hinges try Scotch #600, available at Office Max, etc. This stuff is on large rolls and comes 3 to a box @ ~ $12. Get a dispenser while you're at it. This stuff is really good for all-around use and is certainly cheap enough. A three roll box will last a really long time. I've used a lot more of it just to tape "stuff" than for hinges and i'm in thee middle of the first roll after 2+ years! As for the tape, itself, it is the best I've ever used for hinges, and I"ve tried them ALL both foreign domestic!. Scotch 600's properties are identical to tnose need (for hinging) and it doesn't yellow or seem to get brittle under UV. I used it exclusivly on SuperVs which I flew aggressivly with no failures. Highly recommended (*) Rgds D.O. RCSE-List facilities provided by Model Airplane News. Send "subscribe" and "unsubscribe" requests to [EMAIL PROTECTED]
[RCSE] salt water dunk
Equipment dropped into water should promptly be placed in alcohol. Alcohol immediately absorbs any water thus avoiding corrosion. This includes the receiver, switch, and even transmitter) if you accidentally dropped it in the lake, for instance) , but not batteries). Servos are usually sealed well and you really just to get any water away from the output shafts. The RX however, should be removed from the case, swished around in the alcohol thoroughly, shaken off gently, and then patted dry. Any residual solution will evaporate within minutes. For inside a wooden fuselage, you might try pouring in a glassful but you need to get to it pretty quickly, as water soaks into balsa really fast. For glass fuses, just pour the water out. and let it dry. Alcohol works really well. Some of the pilots I know even carry bottles and cans around with them for these and other kinds of emergencies! This also works with cell phones and pagers! RCSE-List facilities provided by Model Airplane News. Send "subscribe" and "unsubscribe" requests to [EMAIL PROTECTED]
