Same here. In my case though it may be because the epoxy was over
the hill (old). But I do think the cabosil/aerosil stuff exacerbated
its impotence. Regis

Is the epoxy supposed to be 50-50 mix by weight,. or by volume? Makes a
difference.

RE: [RCSE] Epoxy-Cabosil Advice

2004-04-30 Thread John Derstine
You have to use a quality epoxy to get consistent results.
Cheap hobby epoxies have lots of volume filler added to make the mix
ratio 1:1. Use West Systems, Fiberlay Pro-glas, or another 4:1 or 5:1
resin/hardener system.

Subject: [RCSE] Epoxy-Cabosil Advice

Every now and then when mixing a batch of epoxy and cabosil for
structural model building, it doesn't always cure hard as a rock.
It ends up kinda rubbery for a few days. I'm using Hanger 9 30-
minute epoxy and West Systems Cabosil. Using an accurate postal
scale, the normal amount mixed is 3 grams of part A and 3 grams of
part B. It gets mixed for 3-4 minutes before adding the Cabosil
then mixed for 3 minutes more. Sometimes the mixture cures hard in
one hour and sometimes it is still rubbery after 2 days. Only
enough Cabosil is added to make the slurry the same consistancy of
toothpaste.

Any ideas for the rubbery result? Any suggestions for a more
consistant epoxy?
