Bill has it exactly right. Electronic format would be my preferred choice,
too.

Searchable digest of past years: If this idea has traction, then remember to
use Acrobat's feature "Acrobat Catalog" to create a full-text index of the
entire document collection. Options are available for Case Sensitive, Sounds
Like, and Word Stemming. See the file Acrohelp.pdf for details.

Alas, you cannot copy a picture of Gordy out of an Acrobat file for digital
manipulation. For that, publishing to HTML via RoboHelp or using a standard
HTML building environment like DreamWeaver plus a web search engine tool is
required. I mention RoboHelp because it can build the HTML and the indexes
automatically.

cool stuff published therein each month. OK, here's your chance to get a
FREE issue and see what he's been talking about!

Simply go to and
you'll be able to directly download a PDF version of the January 2004
issue of RCSD from a link on that page.

The PDF file is just 1053K in size, so even if you're on a 28.8/56K
dial-up account, like we are, the download time should be just a few minutes.

This PDF issue contains seven articles, one of which is sure to pique your
interest. As an added bonus, there's color photography, not available in
the printed version.

If you enjoy this free, full color, PDF version of RCSD, the articles, and
the ability to download it on-line, drop a quick line to the RCSD folks at
<[EMAIL PROTECTED]>. Your comments would be appreciated.

You print off only the articles you desire and bind them in any manner you
wish. Even with the very best of monthly publications, I don't necessarily
want to keep the whole thing. After a couple of years of saving mags, you
end up with large pile of paper 75% or more of which is of no long term
interest. You can save the PDF files on a CD and still have access to
EVERYTHING.

For the record, having a huge pile of ALL the past issues of RCSD is
absolutely nothing that turns me on. I'd be willing to pay fair value for
a complete set of all back issues on CD in PDF format. Think how fast you
could search for a specific article or general topics. Think of getting
data and graphs and just storing them in a manner relevant to your specific
needs. Think how much fun it would be getting your hands on digital pics
of Gordy and working them over with Photoshop! ;-)

And I have every issue ever printed. I could care less about
photographs. Let me have drawings, graphs, and real data. Pictures are
just eye candy and tell me nothing. Let me have the engineering data.
Yep. I like real data too, AND the convenience of storing it
efficiently. What data are you wishing that is not in the .PDF format RCSD
that is in the hard copy???

It might be nice to have the option of hard copy or .PDF. After all,
variety is the spice of life. We don't ALL like skegs now do we (running
for my NOMEX undies)? ;-)

Cheers,

Bill
