[RCSE] Hobbico Frequency Checkers

2005-04-21 Thread Paul Emerson
You know what would be cool - if you took one apart and integrated it
into your club's freq board, so each board slot would have it's own
LED light indicating if it was open or not (but do NOT use it as a
subtitiute for putting your card/pin up there). Shouldn't be too hard
to wire that up, and cheap too.

You could also integrate the antenna (or a custom long range antenna)
and a solar power source on top of your freq board and have it always
be on.

A project for next winter . . .

 Hi Guys,

Our club ordered two, one for our freq board and one to have in the sit'n
area. I just put two on back order for myself. (heck if they are good
enough to have one, always get two :-)

The backorder list has gotta be huge!

Here's the link to Tower's advert, there is a $10 off special on orders over
$100 (type 010A3 in where it says submit special number or such ..

and don't forget the external extra range antenna

All up for two $127ish plus shipping when they are sent. Good deal I think
 :-)

That's a great idea, and I'll probably build one myself! Unfortunately they
don't expect the scanners until mid-May.

They're meant to run on 3 AAA alkaline cells, so a common four-cell
rechargeable receiver pack will probably work fine for the frequency board
project.

Or a 3 cell rechargeable wireless telephone pack would work.
