[RCSE] Long music wire????
Anyone have a good source for 48" or longer 1/16" straight music wire for pushrods? I have a couple of projects that 36" wire is not going to get it. Re: [RCSE] Long music wire????
Hi Shawn, I don't think anyone has long music wire... Try a weld shop. I have used welding wire. normally a weld shop will give you 15 feet or so. it comes in different diameters and is not hard to straighten out enough to work. I have used it on a couple of different planes. LEElenci1938e <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: Anyone have a good source for 48" or longer 1/16" straight music wire for pushrods? I tried a music store, and they seemed willing to help - it was very busy, and I had to leave, but they acted as thought they had spools of wire for the pianos Maybe?Good luck, Brent

Try Mcmaster carr too. They have coils.. The question is how tightly wrapped is the coil... Very reasonably priced. http://www.mcmaster.com/nav/Framework.asp?ReqTyp=CATALOG&CtlgPgNbr=3462&CtlgEdition=111&fam=steel&ppe=27&ppr=1&psm=2&psl=3&; lenci1938e wrote: Anyone have a good source for 48" or longer 1/16" straight music wire for pushrods? Re: [RCSE] Long music wire????
You can get long music wire from www.smallparts.com, or from any piano tuner. I got a huge roll from an on-line piano parts company, a lifetime supply for sixteen bucks if I recall right. I later found it was easier to get stainless-steel leader wire from Bass Pro Shop. It's not as stiff as music wire, but works fine for pushrods. RCSE-List facilities provided by Model Airplane News. Re: [RCSE] Long music wire????
Bill, This is .018" wire for a DLG. You can practically tie it in a knot. It needs a housing to take shape. The curve from the coil goes away as soon as the push rod is in the housing. Re: [RCSE] Long music wire????
I have never seen anything longer than 36" in 'straight' wire. We used to get in coils when I was at NASA, but it was the very devil to straighten. However, we got pretty good at using a DUALL band saw blade welder to seld two peices of straight wire together in order to extend it. .bcAG4YQ Williamsburg, VA On Mon, 12 Sep 2005, lenci1938e wrote: > Anyone have a good source for 48" or longer 1/16" straight music wire > for pushrods? Re: [RCSE] Long music wire????
I can't think of any reason to be using 1/16 music wire for pushrods. Either use 1/16 carbon fiber rods or use hypo tubing. If you want 6 ft long straight wire, Small Parts does sell stainless steel white in those lengths that is already straight. With a well supported, straight pushrod, you probably only need .030 wire or possibly less. Any of these alternatives will be much lighter than 1/16 music wire. Shawn, I think I still have some 48" 1/16th wire how much do you need? Larry
RE: [RCSE] Long music wire????
You can get dead-straight hard stainless steel wire from www.smallparts.com in 60" lengths. Not quite as hard as piano wire, but pretty close. The drawback is that the 0.06" size is about $12 a piece, plus an extra oversize shipping charge. They also have loose coils of hard stainless wire, but only up to 0.043" diameter. This stuff is vastly cheaper at $4 for 30 feet. RCSE-List facilities provided by Model Airplane News.
