For me, the moral to this story is to make proper use of the technology you have. I had a few 1 hour flights on that model as well as some all day sessions. But I had not flown it much over the winter or this spring due to moving. I should have used my Cirius battery checker to see if it would still deliver the 600 mA it did when I first checked the pack out. I also should have used my Cirius Pro to charge it after every flight. I posted a note to the Allegro group, but I'd like to send a big shout out to John D. at JR. JR/Horizon is doing a great job sponsoring the OVSS. I really appreciated John's help attempting to hunt this runaway sailplane down. I'm hoping in a few days the media reports that the Bubble Dancer is found in Reno (or wherever they found the runaway bride) playing some baccarat. The CSS guys put on a great contest. Sounds like a good tactic to get your 15 minutes, launch and then turn off the transmitter. Seems the plane did just fine without any intervention. :-) Steve At 02:35 PM 5/23/2005, rdwoebke wrote: That was my Bubble Dancer. It was the last round of the contest actually (the 15 minute task). [RCSE] OVSS/Line Stuff- I was there!!
I had the chance to attend and fly the first 2005 OVSS contest hosed by the Cincinnati club this weekend (May21-22). Line break problems, no way. The few that occurred were handled quickly, efficiently and the contest moved very smoothly. The weather was cooperative and we got lots of seeded man on man rounds in. Five or six on Sat., and four on Sunday. Lots of ICONs, a few Pike's, Sharons, Evolution, and even an RES plane or two. Most spectacular flight had to be a Bubble Dancer that was superbly trimmed. In the next to last round on Sat., this plane was lauched and (best guess) the RX battery died shortly after launch. Thanks to Capn Jack and Karen for the generous loan of Big Red and a Stylus, Steve Siebenaler for somewhere to stay, and all my old buds from the midwest for making me welcome. In no particular order, Mark, Rob, Jon, The Chicago Green (er Dream) team, John Diniz of JR for supporting our hobby (and I don't fly JR!), Barry, a couple of comers (Paul Sherman and Chip ???), and a bunch of others. I look forward to seeing this bunch again at Muncie. Jim Thomas
