[RCSE] Wing Tape

2004-06-08 Thread Gene Hays
Once upon a time Paul Trist sold two types of wing tape.
He had a clear tape, much like conventional Scotch tape, about
one inch wide.
Additionally he had a white tape, perhaps 3/4 wide, that looked
a lot like medical adhesive tape.
Is there another source for these materials?

I use the 3M brand 1/2 and 3/4 electrical tape, they come in all
colors. The 1/2 tape sometimes called phasing tape for wire ID's.
The 1 wide tape is too wide for going around compound curves.

For cleaning, I use isopropol Alcohol(rubbing alcohol) that has at
least 70% alcohol(90% stuff working better)

For removal of gunk use Prep-Sol. I've never had it harm any finish. It's
available from automotive paint suppliers.

[RCSE] wing tape

2002-10-29 Thread d. o. darnell

Hi, Dave;
We used to use a clear tape permanently attached to the root (about 1
wide) to eliminate the covering from being pulled loose by the attaching
tape. (The attaching tape sticks down on top of the permanent tape.) For
the permanent tape we used SlickTac which was used to make decals but is
probably no longer available. However, any clear, high-tack tape (you
don't want IT to peel off) will do. I like Scotch 600, for example but
almost any will do. It's amazing how many clear tapes there are out
there! Wrap the permanent tape all the way around the root. Then during
each flying session, use 3M vinyl tape which holds well but is also easily
removable.

Hope this helps!

Regards;

RE: [RCSE] Wing tape

2001-10-25 Thread PWT

We stock a few types,

The # 140 sells the best and is a polypropylene based tape. It leaves
little to no residue.

See URL http://www.planes-wings-things.com/products/wing-root.htm

I have stock and read to ship

Or if Jim Carlton is closer to you try him to, I here he has good tape
too.

By mid Nov I will have a few more type of root tape

Red Vinyl
Yellow Vinyl
White replace for the 3m for full scale sailplanes
White 1 1/4 X 6yd rolls

Or if Jim Carlton is closer to you try him to, I here he has good tape
too.

Hi David,

I sell 1 X 36 yds of clear and white pressure sensitive tape that works
well. I have been using this tape for about 10 years and have had good
results. The clear is a slightly yellowish, not crystal clear, but works
well and leaves just a mild residue after many repeated uses that can be
removed easily with citrus or goo gone remover. The white is popular for
scale and all white planes. I also have some 1 1/4 X 6yd rolls available
which works well for scale and larger size planes. This is a thinner tape
and holds well due to the increased width. Not as tacky as the clear or
white 1.
Pricing is $4.00 per roll for either clear or white 1 and $1.00 per roll
for the 1 1/4 white. Shipping is $2.00 for 1 or 2 rolls of 1 and better
rates for shipping for larger quantities.

If interested, send a check or money order to :
