Re: [RCSE] Berg Reciever and Nimh battery Problem.
Be considerate about low surge capacity (or significant internal resistance) of some cell for HLG for our "weight watchers" out there (you see such label is not limited for our ladies). Look at the tail configuration of your plane. It should be noted that V-tail rudder control simultaineously call for two servo. This stretches the cell capacity that can make things worse. RE: [RCSE] Berg Reciever and Nimh battery Problem.
Robert, Check the voltage of the pack. If I remember correctly, 4 cells fro mthe 9v pack only come to like 4.6 v or something! Under load this could easially drop to <4v. Add in wire resistance and other load and you can see servos drop off. It is great that people are using 3 cell packs for flying...but realisticly that is not always going to work. receivers were designed to work on 4.8 to 7.2 volts. Designed that way to handle 4 and more recently 5 cell ni-cad packs. Three cell packs with a normal under load voltage of say 4.0v is signifigantly outside of the operating range. In most electronics that I have seen, 2-5% out of spec can create problems. Using a 3 cell pack is over 15% out of spec. It is truly suprising that it works . But anyway, since it works fine with ni-cads, try just using them. I have 2 Wizzards, and both required 110x4cell ni-cad packs minimum to balance correctly. One used 150s. The optimum is the 400mah Lithium metal batteries (2cells, 6 volts, weight of a 5 cell 50mah pack!). I have had problems after recharge the batteries and applying power to the receiver with the transmitter already turned on, the servos go nuts and to full travel in opposite directions. The battery pack that I made uses (4) cells from a Radio Shack Nimh 9 volt pack. When I remove any (2) servos, the remaining (2) work normally. The also seems to work fine using plain nicad batteries. I haven't tried a (3) Nimh pack yet, but that will be the next thing I try. I haven't looked at the system current draw to see if there might be causing problem. Any suggestion would be appreciated. RCSE-List facilities provided by Model Airplane News. There were some bad xtals produced, so you might want to check that also. JR are compatible if you don't have other Bergs.
