Hell, it is too >tough for $150 ships. Marc, That is pretty normal now for top-end DLGs. You can RTF a competitive DLG (from an ARF) yourself for as little as $500-$600 or so in plane and electronics. A Vandal is a small shop competition-class glider with (my guesstimate) 30 or more hours of construction and assembly labor in it, ~$100 in materials, $175-225 in electronics. Don't forget the four RDS (RAD) installations. 1K sounds about right for a glider in near-new condition. And Vandal is a GREAT glider. Ask anyone who has flown one. As to how tough the flying environment is for hand launch, yeah, hand launch is very demanding flying. You get to see how good your soaring skills are, really quickly! Why do so many people love hand launch? I think because meeting the hand launch challenge is so satisfying, especially when you have a great-flying plane. They do things that seem almost impossible. We have so many good planes to choose from now, one might think the cost would come down. Unfortunately, it takes *a lot* of time and effort to create one of these goodies. The best dollar deal is to build it yourself. We all pay in dollars or time. ;) Aradhana Singh Khalsa Espanola, NM RCSE-List facilities provided by Model Airplane News. Re: [RCSE] Price of DLG's
Nothing like good ol' market forces to drive things up! The Vandal is the hot ship on the west coast, and they are few and far between from what I hear. Get yourself three $300 Polecat Sidewinder II's and fly for years! Re: [RCSE] Price of DLG's
Marc, Even more amazing is the fact it took no time at all to sale. Of course if you take into consideration that the plane was completely ready to fly and basically brand new, most of the top line competitive planes out there are nearly the same price by the time you buy the air frame, the electronics and spend any time building or should I say installing the gear in the plane. Most of us do not consider our time spent building when we figure in the cost of a model but on average I would say most ARFs would qualify to add at least a couple of hundred dollars for the build. It does not take long to add up to close to a grand for any of the latest and greatest DLG's. I just wish my old, fat, out of shape body and bum ankle would still allow me to enjoy chucking a $1000 DLG around. I guess I will have to stick to a really cool Electron II Electric that flies like a DLG on Roids and is easy on the body. RE: [RCSE] Price of DLG's
Well, I honestly think that Geoff Jones simply does not want to work for free. I think that the $1000 comes with servos and stuff too. If that makes a difference. For the same price, I have an Aspirin (fully molded and designed by Andreas Herrig) Marc, I agree...a tough environment to be sure. I am a study in defensive flying with all that hardware in the sky at once. You may notice me NOT in the middle of the group. Also, I make sure that, every once in a while, during practice, with a lot of people watching, I flub a launch so bad that people give me a little extra clearance for their own safety... You know, like in the movie "Bull Durham"? When Kevin Costner tells the rookie pitcher Tim Robbins to throw a pitch at the mascot.just to keep 'em guessing :-) Cheers, but not too close ;-) Mike Original Message Subject: Re: [RCSE] Price of DLG'sFrom: "Jay Hunter" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>Date: Tue, November 27, 2007 7:38 pmTo: "Soaring Exchange" I saw that too, and I have to admit I just don't get it.
