Yes Ray, Tom won with a beautiful, well constructed Sailplane. Too bad the
design is not a real enlarged replica of the Oly II as mine will be.

I never have been to the model show so I headed out there on
Saturday. It was quite interesting even though there were very few
gliders. Some cool tanks on display and a 66% Super Cub looked just
 right for a 3.5' passenger. :-)

Overall it was good, although if there was something that I would
like to see improved is the amount of space. It was crowded with
narrow isles, you had to be careful where you stopped in fear of
having a crowd traffic jam. Some booths, like the Horizon Hobby, were
barely navigable due to the number of people milling about. I did
manage to grab a little attention from Peter Goldsmith and talk about
 the Soaring Masters in September.

Met Barry Kennedy, who had a nice booth with the huge Super AVA on
display and a bright green molded Supra belonging to some guy name
Joe. Cool electronics were abundant at the show, Barry was
demonstrating the new GPS module for the Picolario. It's on my list.

Met George Joy, from the famous Sirius Electronics, and got a great
 deal on a Sirius charger.

Stopped by the Hitec/Multiplex booth and asked why they discontinued
the Super Slim even though there is no similar replacement. It
worked out okay, because Cermark was unloading their last stock of
Super Slims, for a steal. I'm good for a while now, my next
receivers I ever buy will be synthesized. Which seems to be the
standard new thing on display at many of the manufacturers,
 synthesized receivers and transmitters.

Met up with several Soaring buddies including our LSF President Tom
Kallevang, the rest of the board, and Mr OVSS Marc Gellart. I
wonder if Daryl had to pay LSF to show his interview that was playing
at the LSF booth. Nice job, I think we need to call him, Hollywood
 Daryl. :-)

It was fun, like visiting a very large Hobby shop. Quite interesting
to see that we never get old our toys just get more expensive.

Re: [RCSE] Toledo and LSF

2000-04-02 Thread Pat McCleave

Joe, and others:

If memory serves me right, all of my Level 1 task was done with a Craft Air
Windrifter. Level II I really moved up and went to the Craft Air Sailair.
Level III was compeleted with two different planes, all of the TD stuff was
done with an Invader MKIV kitted for a short time by a guy named Herb Smith
in the Denver area, and the my 2 hour slope flight was done at Lake Wilson
KS with my trusty old Coyote. I almost crashed with less than 5 minutes to
go while doing low inverted passes. I was getting bored so what can I say?
Level IV is still work in progress, all I have left is my cross country
flight. I had it done several years ago but lost my voucher so had to start
over. Oh well double the fun. I am plannig on trying to do my cross
country with a HLG just to make it more fun and challenging. I am in no
hurry to race to Level V but do keep that as my Ultimate goal in RC soaring,
that and maybe beating Joe or Daryl sometime. I think reaching Level V will
be easier than the latter. Well that is my LSF story and I am sticking to
it.

See Ya,

Pat (Long time Level III) McCleave

BTWI'm curiouswhat ships/ship set-ups did you LSF folks use for
various tasks/levels? I think this may be an interesting thread,
potentially---at any rate, I'd like to know(looking hopefully ahead)!
Especially when you got into the higher tasks requiring serious
 cross-country, slope and thermal work.
