Looking back through the online archives, I did find where this was mentioned as far back as 2004 and saw the full explanation about how some cards don't properly initialize the cable select function. At least these boot. I ran across some "industrial" cards that are labeled as INNODISK iCF 2000. These won't even boot in a net5501. They will work in some other devices I have though so worse case, I have 2 1GB cards for my camera. What would cause a net5501 to boot a compact flash as /dev/hdb? I have no other storage device connected. The compact flash card is a Transcend Industrial (1GB Ultra non-dma fixed disk). Yes, the net4801 and net5501 use basically the same internal power supply and have the same use of the 6 pins internal power connector. [Soekris] net5501 and JP10, DC Power
Hello, there is still no manual for the net5501 but I have a question regarding "internal" power supply. The manual for net4801 says that the JP10 can be used to supply power instead of the front board power supply. Is this still true for the net5501 board? Quote of the net4801 manual: JP10, DC Power 6 pins AMP MTA100 header, for connecting of internal power supply. Also has 2 of the GP IO pins, for use with advanced power management. Can be used with a 5V DC power supply if pin 3 and 4 are connected together, or with a 6V to 28V DC power supply if only pin 3 are used. When the board is viewed as on the illustration, pin 1 is the top pin, at the JP10 text. Is this also still true? Can someone confirm this? To me, that PATA/SATA thing is just unnecessary complexity, weight and cost. I don't use it and I'm not planning to. I would very much appreciate a scaled-down Soekris model with dual CF. And slots in the side for the CF cards, if possible;). Just a small-scale brainstorm.
