Hi all,

I have trouble with rendering instanced flames. I made a flame
then i
cached it, after that i instanced that cached flame on a
pointcloud . On
the viewport everything is ok, i see my instanced flames but
when it

comes to render there is nothing...

Any suggestions? Or is this a limitation?

Thanks!

You cannot edit them easily I think, but you can definitely delete the
offending rows, and if Record is ON, when you add something to a group or
partition, it will get jotted down in the delta right away.

Re: fader override

2013-03-04 Thread Toonafish
maybe you could use the "Card_Opacity" shader ? If you plug every
material into in the card_opacity node, you could fade the opacity of
each object with an override, without affecting the transparencies of
the materials.

I have an object that has a material which is "multi-transparent", in

There are several of these.

What I would like to do is group them, then apply an override to the
group such that the local materials stay intact, but that it allows me
to fade the objects in and out. At 0 fader they would be invisible, at
.5 fader they would be half dissolved in, at 1 fader they would be
completely visible but with the transparencies reaching there set values.

I've been unable to apply a transparent override without all the
transparencies below the hierarchy assuming the override transparency.

Is there a way to do this and keep the transparencies independent the
override?

fader override

2013-03-04 Thread Ponthieux, Joseph G. (LARC-E1A)[LITES]
Hi,

I'm looking for a way to construct a "fader" for an object and in some cases
multiple objects simultaneously.

I have an object that has a material which is "multi-transparent", in other
words think grid with a line and fill of different opacities.

There are several of these.

What I would like to do is group them, then apply an override to the group such
that the local materials stay intact, but that it allows me to fade the objects
in and out. At 0 fader they would be invisible, at .5 fader they would be half
dissolved in, at 1 fader they would be completely visible but with the
transparencies reaching there set values.

I've been unable to apply a transparent override without all the transparencies
below the hierarchy assuming the override transparency.

Is there a way to do this and keep the transparencies independent the override?

Re: Tracking eye-lines

2013-03-04 Thread peter_b
just thinking out loud...
haven’t done this but it sounds like an interesting challenge.

you could track a scanned face to the filmed one (I think pftrack can do this
and others too) that could be a good starting point to correctly place the
eyeballs – remember the eyeballs would be sitting at a fixed position in the
head – you could even try to import a detailed skull model and align it with
the scanned head actor to help with placement of the eyes.
make a rigged pupil for each eye, with its pivot in the center of the eyeballs,
then track/animate the pupils by hand using just x and y rotation. add some
nulls or lines from the pupils outward – see if and where they diverge - this
could give you in theory an approximation of where the person is looking.

I wonder if this could give a useable result? perhaps within a very controlled
setup.
I’ve hand tracked some totally different things to footage, in a comparable
way, by setting up a simple rig that would mimic what I knew from how the real
subject worked – and ended up with more useable results than brute force camera
tracking software would give me.

Vlad, the bug for the stylesheet on linux is fixed ! Apparently the
paths were all small case but linux was not liking the "_" in the txt
file name.

You pull again or download the zip again.

For the segfault, I did not get any on ubuntu 12.04 (perfect pangolin)
it was working all fine. If you can tell me the distro you are testing
it on, maybe I can dig dipper.

I would say that this is where a more functional programming approach may
be neater. That way you can hide all the nastyness away in small functions
elsewhere and then just stick a suspiciously tidy looking map() in the main
Execute.

Well it's a little more complicated than that because I need to "paint"
with the fov :)

So the accumulation of particles over time is required.

Indeed. A mix of OM and commands is necessary. You can query ports via OM
but you'll need to use commands to connect stuff. Have fun you'll find it

Hmmm, I think I have done it once for an effect. The workflow was really
not that straight. I was emitting particles from a ground mesh. As a first
pass, I was writing a weight map on the geo based on the camera move,
setting value of 1.0 for all vertex in fov and 0 for non-visible. Then I
froze the weight map. And in the sim, I was filtering the emission by this
weight map.

But there can be other simpler ways around it depending use case scenario.
One way that I think of right off my head is to delete particles not in
view. But this can be time consuming if you have high particle density and
only a small part of it visible to fov.

Hey Joey,

My ET_PassManager can do this.
https://dl.dropbox.com/u/3533340/ET_Tools/ET_PassManager_v3.0.xsiaddon.zip

You can uncheck the pass and partition options in the GUI and only have it
export the Scene Render options and the Renderer Settings. Then import it into
your new scenes and they will be reloaded. Do note that in order to get it to
export, you have to have 1 pass selected. Usually the default pass will work.

Re: render setting preset

2013-03-04 Thread Eric Thivierge
Hey Joey,

My ET_PassManager can do this.
https://dl.dropbox.com/u/3533340/ET_Tools/ET_PassManager_v3.0.xsiaddon.zip

You can uncheck the pass and partition options in the GUI and only have it
export the Scene Render options and the Renderer Settings. Then import it
into your new scenes and they will be reloaded. Do note that in order to
get it to export, you have to have 1 pass selected. Usually the default
pass will work.

2013-03-04 Thread Ponthieux, Joseph G. (LARC-E1A)[LITES]
No, not really. These are the things I want to save, but as a single preset on
disk.

For example in either of those dialogs I can save or load a preset, and save it
as a DS Preset or .preset. But what I'd really like to do is save the preset
from Render Manager so that everything for all of the render dialogs, Pass,
Scene, Mental Ray, etc are all saved as a single preset, as much as could
possibly be combined of course.

Re: Scntoc Res Manager v 1.0 released

2013-03-04 Thread Vladimir Jankijevic
Hi Alok,

there are some minor problems on linux here.

- changing styles get me this:
Traceback (most recent call last):
...
File "/nfshome/vladi/scntocResManager/widgets.py", line 81, in setColor
raise Exception('Style Path - %s does not exist !!' % p)

this is due to the fact that linux is case sensitive. so the stylesheet
files should all be lowercase.

- pressing on Help, F1 or About results in a Segfault

one cool thing that would be handy is if one could actually change the
contents of the Res Path field. For example to change a version of the
reference.
and of course a search and replace in that place would be helpful too :)

nice tool you got there

cheers

Just a quick note for those cloning the repo:

The usual way to clone the repo is by the https :
https://github.com/alok1974/scntocResManager.git

For the SSH method an SSH key is required which I need to install on
github.com. So I recommend using the http method above for you guys if you
want to clone.
