Initializes the vertex island data.

Transforms the vertex islands.

  Controling Polygons and Polygon Islands
There are some special cases, in
Motion Tools, that deviate from the basic
setup. We stumble upon such cases when you
want to, for example, control polygon
islands from a fracture object, or text
object. Also, when we want to dice a
object into many polygons and control
  those disconnected elements.

For both this situations you can use
the menu “ICE  >  Create  >  Motion
Tools  >  Create Instances from Islands”
and then choose the option that fits you
  best, either, “Use Exisiting Polygon
Islands”, or, “Dice Polygons into Polygon
  Islands”.

Both situations will yeld a similiar
setup that we can describe this way.
Firstly the object in which the Polygon
Islands exist (or in which the polygons
will be sliced into Polygon Islands)
receives a ICETree that looks like this:

RE: Google Earth Pro 3D data or similar?

2016-05-13 Thread Morten Bartholdy
Well sure I would prefer it to be XSI, but interesting nonetheless as our
management is contemplating getting some C4D seats at some point. One more
reason to do so then :-)

RE: Google Earth Pro 3D data or similar?

2016-05-13 Thread Morten Bartholdy
So I get Global Mapper which facilitates finding the right data(!?), matching
elevation data and imagery and export stuff to XSI?

Incidentally I tried a different method using Andy Moorers
emit_instances_matched_to_master_srts.1.2 compound which also does the trick,
but your method taught me some more ICE, so I am much obliged :-)

buy global mapper for sure! although it's better if you have a budget for
the premium satellite imagery (the free stuff is ok in continental USA, but
globally not so hot)

also buy this tutorial from Gnomon

-data-volume-1

really good sections on using global mapper and getting elevation data and
imagery to line up

finally screw google, we spent months trying to buy imagery from them and
they just don't know how to deal with 'customers'

there are also independent satellite imaging companies, that often supply
their data for use in google maps/earth, so if you are well funded, you

Hi,

I have tried a few times and failed trying to get anything from Google
Earth. I used public DEM/GeoTIFF data last time I had to do something like
that. Depending where you are flying over there are also some good national
databases out there.

You have stuff like http://aescripts.com/geolayers/ and there is at least
one 3dsmax plugin also.

http://www.bluemarblegeo.com/products/global-mapper.php is a good low-cost
product for dealing with this sort of data and converting various GeoTIFF
projections for example.

Best of luck.

much like in Google Earth, but with added bits and pieces I need to create. I

Realflow plugin not working - quick Q

2016-05-13 Thread Morten Bartholdy
Before I contact Next Limit I thought I would check up with you guys if you
have experienced any problems with Realflow connnectivity plugins for Softimage
2015? I just installed them and they fail to load particles as well as meshes -
both bin sequences. It throws an error saying it can't read the bin files.

I am sure you are right. I was in a hurry to make it work and am not familiar
with geometry pointcaching, so I went with plotting shapes and it got the job
done. It is never too late to learn something new though and I will definately
check out if I can figure out how to pointcache an alembic file.
