RE: Is there a new version of GEAR being planned?
Hi Jeremie, 1. Facial stuff would be awesome 2. We talked a year ago or so about sliding and volume preserving stuffs, that would be fantastic too 3. To me the lines from the knee and elbow controllers to the joint is always off (not pointing into the direction of the joint, but off the center of the joint) Cheers Szabolcs From: softimage-boun...@listproc.autodesk.com [mailto:softimage-boun...@listproc.autodesk.com] On Behalf Of Jeremie Passerin Sent: Monday, April 08, 2013 9:01 PM To: softimage Subject: Re: Is there a new version of GEAR being planned? Hey guys, Thanks for the support. As Sebastien says, Blur is keeping me very busy now... I really don't have time to work on Gear at all. Let me just remind everyone that Gear is fully open source and that anyone can feel free to add new systems, new tools. I know some people have already done it but not always shared... :( Though, Blur has an open source philosophy too and I'm working on some new tools here. So maybe this year something new might show up. It won't technically be Gear 2.0 but going in the same direction. Still a lot of work so I have no release date but this is quite an important thing for me to publish these tools for all kind of reasons.. so yeah expect something. Also, just out of curiosity, what do you miss so much in Gear that you are asking for the new version ? thanks, Jeremie
Re: Is there a new version of GEAR being planned?
Thanks for the feedback guys... Well as I mentionned, it's not going to happen any time soon. I'll push to release a brand new tool this year that is also a rig builder but slightly different from Gear. There might be some facial stuff but not that much because it's just not the way we are doing it at Blur so I'm not working on stuff like that right now. The new tool as much more advanced connection of components and allows for very interesting use of some sliding and volume preservation components. It is similar to what you can find in the Blur Tools already but much more flexible and easy to use. Szabolcs, you can fix the knee/elbow controller issue by deleting the controller from the guide. I know it's not a great design but at least there is a workaround for this one. ;-) On 9 April 2013 00:04, Szabolcs Matefy szabol...@crytek.com wrote: Hi Jeremie, ** ** **1. **Facial stuff would be awesome **2. **We talked a year ago or so about sliding and volume preserving stuffs, that would be fantastic too **3. **To me the lines from the knee and elbow controllers to the joint is always off (not pointing into the direction of the joint, but off the center of the joint) ** ** Cheers ** ** ** ** Szabolcs ** ** *From:* softimage-boun...@listproc.autodesk.com [mailto: softimage-boun...@listproc.autodesk.com] *On Behalf Of *Jeremie Passerin *Sent:* Monday, April 08, 2013 9:01 PM *To:* softimage *Subject:* Re: Is there a new version of GEAR being planned? ** ** Hey guys, ** ** Thanks for the support. Re: Is there a new version of GEAR being planned?
Hello Jeremie. I second Mirko. A GEAR facial rig will be awsome! 2013/4/8 Mirko Jankovic mirkoj.anima...@gmail.com Hey Jeremie, Great to hear you! I'm long time GEAR user and it really saved my life a TON of time! As for what is missing.. well for me and I bet a lot of other people it is facial system. Something to use as base, like GEAR right now and then build upon as needed. Right now GEAR is amazing starting point for like 90% of characters and with just a bit of building on top if it it can take care of most things. Time saved is amazing, and adding something like that for facial would be also great. That is why evreyone is crying for GEAR 2.0 I guess :) On Mon, Apr 8, 2013 at 9:00 PM, Jeremie Passerin gerem@gmail.comwrote: Hey guys, Thanks for the support. Is there a new version of GEAR being planned?
This is mostly aimed at Jeremie, but i thought i'd just send it to the whole list because i'm sure a ton of people are interested in what has been happening to it. I am just curios to know if there is a timeframe for 2.0, and if it will ever be released. Just fiddled around with the system some time ago and thought it was really great. Facial tools were also in the works, but i don't think they were ever released? Now things are starting to ramp up, and was looking around for a good rigging system in xsi, and i remembered gear. But going to the dev blog, i noticed the last entry dates back to 2011. Also, the donations page is no longer working. It would be great to set-up a kickstarter or anything to keep supporting it because last i checked, it was a really great toolkit. Cheers, Octav
