crowdFX and orientation

2013-07-17 Thread Alex Dorman
Hi List

I had a quick question about setting orientation in crowdFX in softimage
2013

I have a simple stadium crowd which I can set a custom emit orientation on
thorough the initialize stadium compound, but I want all the characters to
face looking into the center of the stadium ideally using a null position
as the center.

I have tried using a crowd look at constraint but I can only seem to access
certain parts of there body with this approach rather than there whole body
and it also seems to give unexpected behavior to their animation as well.

Any ideas would be great.

Thanks.

Alex.

Are you still stuck on this?
I have done it but i can't get to look at the scene for an hour or so to
remind myself how i did it. I'll have a look when my machine stops chewing
through strands.
cheers,

Hi Andy and Chris cheers for the help

I have used the setup Chris has shown, the problem I have is that only
works for certain parts of the rig, the problem I am having is certain
characters are created facing away from the stadium so a look at constraint
wont work as it just flips there neck around, I need to actually access the
base of the rig so it spins the whole character around but can seem to
access that data through any constraint.

I have started to break up the stadium instead now and have separate point
clouds for each section which works but would still be great to know if
what I mention was possible.

Thanks.

to control their orientation on an individual level i stuck
align_particle_to_position into the custom orientation port of the
initialise_stadium_data compund. That way i could use a null position as an
aim, or a closest point on geometry with a curve to get them to look at their
closest bit of running track.
