The #1 cause of Taskomatic crashing: not enough memory assigned. Here's how to
fix that:

This is normally caused when the taskomatic service hangs. Try restarting the
taskomatic service. Check the logs /var/logs/rhn/.

2018-11-26 Thread Yakin, Francis
I think what he meant was the clients that on VMware. For me, I like to take a
snapshot from VMware than take a snapshot from SW. It will works 100% in our
env.
So, when you have a problem on the applications after the patching, you just
roll back the previous version from VMware.

That’s my 2 cents.

Re: [Spacewalk-list] [EXTERNAL] Spacewalk 2.8 - Patching RHEL 6/7 Servers

2018-11-26 Thread Waldirio Manhães Pinheiro
Hello Phil

Yeap, this is the diff between the Product (Red Hat Satellite) and Upstream
(Spacewalk), basically, on Satellite everything will be automatically and
will sync packages and erratas. When using SW you have to do this work
manually *implementing some way to download/push to your SW server*.

There are diff ways to do this implementation, and I really recommend you
to take a look in the list archives [1]. I wrote this book [2] with all SW
workflow, unfortunately, I didn't add a way to sync Red Hat repos.

Hope this helps.

I have been able to do this by building a rhel 6 server and creating a local
repo mirror. I then created a rhel 7 and installed spacewalk. That way i have
the entitlements for rhel 6 and 7 covered. From there, I set up the channels
and pointed the rhel 7 to the redhat network, and the rhel 6 was pointed to my
local repo server. I can now get all the rhel 6 and 7 patches into spacewalk.

Subject: [EXTERNAL] [Spacewalk-list] Spacewalk 2.8 - Patching RHEL 6/7 Servers

Good afternoon

I'm currently looking in to options for introducing a single centralised
patching solution for both Oracle Linux 6/7 and RHEL 6/7 systems. There are
about 100 Oracle Linux servers and 50 RHEL servers. I'm starting with the
Spacewalk product and therefore, built a proof of concept environment by
installing Spacewalk 2.8 on an Oracle 7 system. Subsequently, I've added
channels/repositories for Oracle 6/7 and successfully patched a number of test
client systems.
However, I can't seem to obtain clear instructions for how to patch RHEL 6/7
systems using Spacewalk. I believe the functionality of Red Hat Satellite and
Spacewalk is basically the same but the ability to connect directly to RHN to
synchronize software repositories and errata's has been disabled. I've seen
some tentative clues that this can be circumvented as well as some reference to
using "mrepo" but the latter just seems over complicated really.

Alternatively, if Red Hat Satellite is purchased to patch the RHEL 6/7 servers,
has anyone had success with using it to patch Oracle 6/7 servers?

In addition to patching, I also need to investigate their provisioning
capabilities too.

Phil

I think , you can also use "schedule list" , and " schedule_details" from your
spacewalk server , you need to have spacecmd installed

Below is the example.

spacecmd {SSM:0}> schedule_list

spacecmd {SSM:0}> schedule_details 343

Completed: 0
Failed: 0
Pending: 2

Pending Systems
---
svr2.mydom.com
svr3.mydom.com

To cancel a pending event, use the schedule_cancel command.
spacecmd {SSM:0}> schedule_cancel 343
INFO: Canceled action 343
Canceled 1 action(s)

To re-run a failed event, use the schedule_reschedule command.
spacecmd {SSM:0}> schedule_reschedule 382

Hi Sethu,

you only see the status of the Patch "process", if you scheduled the patches
from the Web interface onto the clients.

You can then see the status within Web interface on the client at "system" ->
events -> pending or history.

If you just run "yum upgrade" on the client, you won't see anything within Web
interface. You'll only notice, that the package list has updated and there
should not be any package to be upgraded anymore.

Hope that helped.

starts is it possible to notify via mail?
-> When Patch is under progress how I can check the status (logs) from CLI a
least?. I know from Web interface, but it shows only in progress (how can we
check current status of the patch here) for a long time
-> How can I get notification mail/alert if patch is failed/success with
error/success(list of patches applied) after completion of patch?

I appreciate if you can help me on above

Hi Sethu,

you only see the status of the Patch "process", if you scheduled the patches
from the Web interface onto the clients.

You can then see the status within Web interface on the client at "system" ->
events -> pending or history.

If you just run "yum upgrade" on the client, you won't see anything within Web
interface. You'll only notice, that the package list has updated and there
should not be any package to be upgraded anymore.

Hope that helped.

[Spacewalk-list] Spacewalk 2.8 - Patching RHEL 6/7 Servers

2018-11-26 Thread p.cook...@bham.ac.uk

Regards
Phil

[Spacewalk-list] Patching notifcation - status & alerts

2018-11-26 Thread Ede, Sethu Madhav
Hi spacewalk community-

I am new to community

When I am patching host with RHEL 7 errata from spacewalk, patch is in pending
state for a long time and I don't see any logs from GUI/CLI. Don't know how
to check the logs/status from GUI/CLI and also not receiving any alerts/mails
after completion of patching

Is there any way that we can check the status of the patching from GUI/CLI and
whether patched node can notify(via email) regarding the status of patching
either success or failures.

Regards,
Sethu

Re: [Spacewalk-list] Can rhn-org-trusted-ssl-cert be renamed?

2018-11-26 Thread Mark Prangnell
Thanks Avi,

RPMs not being created properly is and causing issues down the line is good
enough reason not to do it! :)

Main reason behind the thinking of changing it so it would be clear that is
using our particular ssl cert information as opposed to something which could
be missed in the event of an update or a platform rebuild.

Thanks for the information.

To be honest, I've never considered changing it server-side so I can't answer
this with any degree of certainty. However, you're correct in your assessment,
but note that the RPMs will not be created correctly because they are
hard-coded to look for RHN-ORG-TRUSTED-SSL-CERT. This may cause problems down
the track if you want to PXE boot systems and have them auto-register to
Spacewalk.

Also, why exactly do you want to change the name of this file anyway? :) I
suspect that while it could be made to work, you're just setting yourself up
for future technical debt on every upgrade of every system.

Cheers,
Avi
