CCCK – Lviv Cultural Capital
Guided Tour

Sunday September 23rd 6 pm
Meeting Point: Idea Museum
Valova 18 a Lviv

Guided by Oleksandr Ruchko

The Center for Communication and Context (CCCK) is an initiative by
Ingela Johansson (SE), Volodymyr Kuznetsov (UA) and Inga Zimprich
(DE), offering a brainstorm-structure to imagine possible scenarions
for contemporary art institutions in Ukraine. Within the project Post
Funding Eastern Europe the artists currently investigate the
institutional landscape in Lviv, Odessa and Kiev towards a
presentation at the CCA Kiev in October 2007.

This Sunday at 6 pm the artists will present their Lviv-based
research, which included interviews with Vlodko Kaufman, Oles Dzyndra,
Roman Hankevych, Bogdan Shumylovych, Irina Starovoyt, Vasyl Kosiv,
Zenovi Matsurik and students of the MA program at the Centre for the
Humanities, Lviv.

In form of a guided tour through the city existing cultural
institutions will be

presented as well as we will discuss their possible future scenarios
next to governmental reformation plans. Whether Lviv will blossom as
Ukraine's cultural capital, whether creative industries will foster
cooperation between private and public partners in the future, and
whether the cultural sphere developed in Lviv can inspire other
Ukrainian cities will be topics raised along the tour.
Afterwards we would like to invite the tour's participants to stay for
an informal drink.

Please bring umbrellas in case it might rain.

[spectre] tesla-berlin threatened with closure

2007-09-23 Diskussionsfäden Andreas Broeckmann

dear friends,

berlin's mediaartslab TESLA is facing closure
by the end of this year. the spaces in the
podewils'sches palais and the complete funding
are being withdrawn after three years of
pioneering work.

the immediate reason for this is that the local
government that funds tesla needs the money for
something else ('cultural education', fostering
the appreciation of art by young people, e.g. by
bringing artists into schools, building
partnerships between art institutions and
schools, etc.). moreover, they were supposedly
not happy about the relatively low number of
paying visitors at tesla. they completely
disregarded the fact that we had many non-paying
visitors, and ignored the singular role that
tesla has as a laboratory and production place
for artists working with different media and
technologies.

if you would like to comment on this to our state
secretary for culture, andre schmitz, who is
politically responsible for this decision, it
would be much appreciated. please, cc us.

regards,
-a

call to action

in light of the current threat to t e s l a 's
existence, we call upon artists, audience, and
colleagues, to communicate to the state of berlin
what the city risks to lose with this decision.
learn more about the current situation at
http://www.tesla-berlin.de , write a letter or an
e-mail to mr andre schmitz, the state secretary
for cultural affairs, and please remember to send
a copy to t e s l a , as well, for our
documentation. you will find the necessary
addresses at the end of this mail.

rather than generic protest letters, we
particularly encourage qualified statements on
the meaning and importance of media art, on the
need for venues for artistic production,
presentation, and reflection, on support for
media art in berlin, and on t e s l a 's role in
both a local and international context. in the
coming months, we will increase our efforts to
attain support from the state of berlin for this
branch of the arts, and we hope that this action
will make it clear that a real need and a broad
interest exists.

we thank you for your support. we hope that this
campaign will reach those responsible for
cultural politics and demonstrate to them the
vital need for a competent center for art and
media in berlin. please forward this call trough
your mailing list. please address any questions
to moritz von rappard (pr and press) at 030. 247

More about the presentations and performance

Who Wants To Be?:
Saul Albert from The People Speak presents 'Who Wants To Be?' The game
show where the crowd has all the answers, makes up the questions and
sets the rules. On the 9th October 'The People Speak' a London based art
collective are to conduct a radical experiment in live entertainment.
'Who Wants to Be?' mixes democratic decision-making, interactive
animation and improvisation into a dangerously spontaneous game show.
Using a computer vision voting system designed for use by hoards of
rowdy people, the audience at the Albany Theatre in Deptford will be
asked to decide how to spend a £1000 cash pot: the entire box office
takings! http://whowantstobe.co.uk/

Open Source Embroidery:
Ele Carpenter presents Open Source Embroidery and the HTML Patchwork
Bringing together programming for embroidery and computing this project
takes as its basis the common characteristics of needlework crafts and
open source computer programming: gendered obsessive attention to
detail; shared social process of development; and a transparency of
process and product. Open Source Embroidery is a socially engaged art
project developed through workshops and an email list:
[EMAIL PROTECTED]
There are also groups on Facebook and Flickr. The same arguments about
Open Source vs Free Software can be applied to embroidery. The
needlework crafts also have to negotiate the principles of 'freedom' to
create, modify and distribute, within the cultural and economic
constraints of capitalism. The Open Source Embroidery project simply
attempts to provide a social and practical way of discussing the issues
and trying out the practice. http://open-source-embroidery.org.uk/

Deptford.TV:
Adnan Hadzi presents Deptford.TV, an audio-visual documentation of the
regeneration process of the Deptford area. Since September 2005
Deptford.TV started assembling AV material around the regeneration
process of the Deptford area, asking community members, video artist,
film-makers, visual artists and students to contribute statements,
feedbacks, critiques of the regeneration process of Deptford. This rough
material as well as edited media content is made available on the
Deptford.TV database and distributed over the boundless.coop wireless
network with an open content license such as the creative commons and
the gnu general public license.
Deptford.TV is in collaboration with SPC.org media lab, Bitnik.org, the
Boundless.coop, Liquid Culture and Goldsmiths College.

For this event a poster was displayed that reads: ‘Old and
depressive anonymous is looking for a permanent display place in some
nice new art museum space’. Cutting off words from the text an
additional series of seven posters are made that reads: 'OLD IS
NICE', 'DEPRESSIVE MUSEUM', 'ANONYMOUS PERMANENT', AND FOR A',
'LOOKING IN ART', 'DISPLAY SOME' and 'PLACE NEW SPACE'. All eight
posters were displayed around the city of Korcula, at both at the
legal public billboards and illegal advertising places where
different kind of posters are usually shown in the public spaces
(because of lack of advertising spaces in Korcula). End of the action
is when posters will be covered with new ones.

Additional mail-art action is made addressing the printed postcard
with mentioned text-design to major art museums and art institutions
around the world. Both actions were made anonymously, with no sign of

Dear readers of pourinfos,

Pourinfos.org come back (in a minimum service - the service of
information on the exhibitions is suspended, the letter pourinfos will
be less frequent) until the end of this year 2007.
We are looking for a viable solution in order to develop and to continue
this experiment media concerning visual arts for artists, mediators,
professionals of art, students and students of schools of art.
To be more precise, we are in the search of financing in order to
develop us and some qualified goodwills in the fields of the mediation
concerning arts and management (English wished) in order to answer our
development durably.
If we remain without solutions at the end of this year, Pourinfos.org
would regret to suspend its activities.

Yours,
Xavier Cahen
