Please, stop saying the problem comes from the USB chipset. It does not.
I've exactly the same problem, and here is what i tested,
_w/o any better performance_ :

  1. Someone says it is a cable problem, so that i try to change both the adsl
filter and the cable which is between the adsl filter and the modem.
  2. Someone says it is an USB chipset bug, so that i try to connect using
different box, wich have <> USB chipset.
  3. I try to use new ppp over ethernet functionnality, it works, but no
better performance (still have lot of CRC error while downloading stuff)
  4. I try both alcaudsl.sys and mgmt.o
  5. I try using sync/async, changing ppp0 MTU, verbose or not, ...

NOTHING WORKS !
I can't have better performance than about 20Kbytes/sec.
This is annoying, please help !
Thanks for you support.

sorry but i just repost since nobody answers :
here is what i've tested using the latest CVS source :
 1. Someone says it is a cable problem, so that i try to change both the adsl
filter and the cable which is between the adsl filter and the modem.
  2. Someone says it is an USB chipset bug, so that i try to connect using

Sure it works but I can't have better performance than about 20Kbytes/sec.
I have CRC error when i try to download things, i don't have any while running
low-bandwith apps.
This is annoying, please help !

[speedtouch] Speedtouch USB 330 - Find a solution

2003-01-23 Thread Matthieu Foillard

Hi,
After spending lot of energy trying to find what's wrong
with my speedtouch usb 330, i finally found.
At least in my conditions ( w/ my ISP, my modem, my harware ...)
i just comment out the software buffering into modem_run.c ( comment out
swbuff(fdusb,1); )
Now, my download speed is at 64Kbytes/sec and there is no more CRC error..
It seems that the software buffering code provide by thomson does not work at
least for me..

Edouard Gomez removed the software buffering in the latest CVS source;
So that you probably do not use it.

[speedtouch] pppoa3 and netfilter

2003-01-29 Thread Matthieu Foillard

I noticed that pppoa3 eats cpu time (about 4-5%) when i enable some iptables
rules and make my connection laggy (e.g. ping the second host in my route is
about 500 ms and is 55 ms when i disable flush all rules).
Did you noticed somethings similar ? If yes, any solutions u should provide ?

Thanks,
MF

after some test, it seems that the rule which cause this problem is this one :
iptables -A FORWARD -i eth+ -s 192.168.1.0/24 -j ACCEPT
when i enable it, pppoa3 eats cpu time and connection is slow, like i describe
before.

interesting post.
Why do you want the specs ? drivers now works fine and i can't see how specs
will help you to improve the existing stuff. The only thing i see is to have
full opensource drivers including the microcode. It seems that Ian Molton is
working on it.

Ca devrait marcher comme pour un 2.4.x (en tout cas pour le ST330)
