Hi #wunclub - ers
SHORT STORY -
Does anyone have logs of the irc channel #wunclub? Like say, from August
6-13 UTC 2-10? While I was online? I want to look at them so I can get
more info from some of my monitoring sessions. I had it all on an excel
file but it crashed ages ago and I lost a lot of data due to not saving a
recovered file. (d'oh). Thought I didn't *need* it but it would be cool
if I could get those logs, and wondered if there might be someone who just
logs all their irc sessions who might be able to help me out.
LONG STORY -
You might recall me as eringee, a user who was online quite a lot for a
week or so, then kind of dropped off.
I kind of got lost in the whole server switch and thought that I was banned
for a while there, but was since informed that no, I'm not horribly banned
for reasons I couldn't really figure out (wasn't doing anything wrong?)
I was actually putting all the intense scanning in (10PM-6AM EST) for a
week straight because I was curious, experimenting with what I could from
the scans...I didn't have to do a week straight or recordings that long but
I thought that in order to TRULY understand the shortwave monitoring
situation/environment, it was important to do base research (shorter
listening sessions were done before the week-long stint) I had to immerse
myself and dedicate myself somewhat, as just listening to recordings on
Youtube of bizarre transmissions, it's totally not the same thing.
I learned a lot from my sessions, and miss it sometimes!!! I still listen
but ugh, my radio is so bad, back in Montreal it's even worse. It was a
lot more interesting back in July with the irc chat thing but I'm on a Mac
and honestly I haven't been able to get a client to work, Starchat was uhm,
easy.
I have an exhibition in a month or so where I will be playing recordings of
my scans (all 8 hours!) all time synched, and with a woven blanket whose
patterns are determined by well, uh, a kind of TV Guide of what I could
pick up (hard to explain). So yeah the art is the weaving but the radio
sounds are there for context.
I was partially inspired by a conversation I had with someone while I was
on ircsomeone said something like Hey why do you like numbers
stations..unless you are interested in white noise, there is no
reason. And I thought Hey, white noise can be kind of
interesting...maybe I can illustrate that. So this person gave me the
AHA! moment to make art.
If anyone is interested I can send A/V, pics of the install in
Montrealand of course if we have any Montreal based radio monitor peeps
than you could check out the installation
Cheers! But yeah I'm curious to see if anyone has logs, contact me if it's
possible, I'm only interested in the time I was online, 2-10 UTC Aug 6 - 13.
