[Spooks] social networks for spooks
Visit http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/spooks to unsubscribe from this list Hello Spooks, This is just one network for numbers stations, and the only one that I know of with a database, but there are other places for us to meet. You probably have heard of social networking, and it's mot resticted to high schoolers. I met a few of my college buddies through Facebook, and I just turned f-f-f-forty. If you're already on it, you know there are groups you can join for various interests, such as others who grew up in your hometown, or common hobbies, so I went searching for radio and found several for amateur radio and SWLing. There's even two for numbers stations! They're called Nubers Stations, Number Staion Obsessives and The Conet Project: Decyphering Numbers Stations. Something to think about the next time you're web surfing. [Spooks] where did E10 go?
Visit http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/spooks to unsubscribe from this list Hello Spooks, I thought I was imagining it, or maybe I had bad equipment, but I haven't heard E10 for months. It used to be one of the most active spooks out there. I did a quick seach of the database and it seems that E10 reports from North America have dropped in the last 3 months. Does anyone know if they're using a different transmitter, or if this is just another sign of the bottom of the sunspot cycle? Most American reports now are the Cubans, with Mossad and LP alost absent. 73, Dan Malloy __ Spooks mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/spooks Help: http://mailman.qth.net/faq.htm Post: mailto:Spooks@mailman.qth.net - Visit http://www.spynumbers.com/ for complete information about Spy Numbers Stations
[Spooks] Make your own database
Visit http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/spooks to unsubscribe from this list Hello Spooks, I wanted to find out what numbers station was on now without tying up my phone line, so I made my own database. I got the Numbers 2006 Excel list from Ary's web page and saved it. There are several blanks in the Days column, and a database won't ;ike that, so I filled those in. Every date has the day somewhere, so you won't need to have a calender in front of you- just copy and paste existing days to save a little time. Be careful that you keep the right day with the right date! It is time consuming- listen to the radio while you work. Bring up Access and import your new and improved Excel Spreadsheed data and there's your database. You can use the filters to see what's on now or when E10 will be on today, that you can't do in Excel. 73, Dan __ Spooks mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/spooks Help: http://mailman.qth.net/faq.htm Post: mailto:Spooks@mailman.qth.net - Visit http://www.spynumbers.com/ for complete information about Spy Numbers Stations

Crypto is in today's Onion: U.S. Cryptographers: 'FrpX-K5jE-Oc4n-e5Dn' October 11, 2006 WASHINGTON, DC-In a carefully phrased, 128-bit encoded announcement that has challenged U.S. security agency procedures, top officials of the National Cryptography and Information Security Council warned that FrpX-K5jE-Oc4n-e5Dn if Ha4d-87gH-uiH3-gB5r-g8Bh late Monday. It may be true, as these codemakers have stated here, that our nation faces 'm7Hk-sJkd-jJk73-4osd-m6Kh,' Department of Homeland Security head Michael Chertoff told reporters in his plaintext response Tuesday. The USPS sincerely apologized for the damage that somtimes happens in their handling and sorting machines. I've had mail with a 1-2 cm tear but the whole end open looks like someone at Logan Airport had a peek in there. I wonder if the bio on Ayatollah Khomeini that was in there with my QSLs caught anyone's attention? My family now says I'm probably on a list for receiving that. Re: [Spooks] Question about spy numbers
Visit http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/spooks to unsubscribe from this list It seems that the lower-tech encryption methods are more fail-safe. Numbers, if generated in a truly random set such as piking them out of a hat the way most lotteries choose winning numbers would create a constantly changing random cypher that would be unbreakable. Although you may have a computer program that claims to generate a psuedo-random code, it is just that- not truly random and there is some algorhythm behind it which may be decoded by a third party. An amusing case of this involved an American game show in the 1980's called Press Your Luck. The players went around a computer generated board to win prizes, but every so often a monster- a Whammy- would show up and that player would be out. One player had done his homework and figured out a pattern to the Whammies- not so random. He went further than anyone else had. They could't take his winnings because there was no rule against what he had done. Your packet may , like this game board, have an algorhythm that someone else could break, but a low-tech, truly random code like numbers are unbreakable, and constant- length messages such as 200 blocks of 5 no matter the length of the actual text ensure secrecy. 73 Dan Malloy, KA1RDZ Everett, MA Date: Wed, 23 Jun 2004 11:15:06 -0500 From: Jon [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: [Spooks] Question about spy numbers To: Shortwave Spy Numbers Stations [EMAIL PROTECTED] Message-ID: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Content-Type: text/plain; charset=iso-8859-1 So are these numbers we pick up actual spys or something secretive? Visit http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/spooks to unsubscribe from this list Hello Spooks, I was reading the ENIGMA 2000 newsletter and saw this item: E03/E03a Apart from the regulations concerning the reception of wireless stations within Great Britain, advice on reporting intelligence matters also exists in the form of DA notices. Whoever the messages, from E03/E03a, are aimed at ENIGMA 2000 has no wish to 'advertise' the existence of these stations to those who may not support the best interests of Great Britain, or its representatives abroad. Although we are unable to stop discussion of E03/E03a, ENIGMA 2000 will remain aloof from any such discussion and will not be including reports or analysis on E03/E03a.
