I have no idea if it would be practical in your situation, but I use 'mp3fs' (https://khenriks.github.io/mp3fs/). My music library is on a Linux server and mp3fs gives me a virtual copy of all the FLAC files, with a tiny storage overhead. Conversion to MP3 is on demand and it is entirely independent of LMS. I expose the virtual MP3 directory as a samba share to the network. -- Nick. mongrel's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=65381 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=109346 ___ Squeezecenter mailing list Squeezecenter@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/squeezecenter

Because he wants to load them on his phone, not play them from LMS. Mp3s have a number of advantages on phones and portable devices: more of them fit into limited storage, and the smaller files use less battery power to play. OP, there are a number of scripts and other software available to do what you want. You can do a google search for something like "flac to mp3". I think dbpoweramp batch converter may be one such solution to doing what you want. [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Convert FLACs to MP3s?
I still don't understand how I can convert FLACs on the server to MP3s on my smart phone when I download them. I am aware of the fact that a converter has to be installed on the NAS but I have no idea at all which one it must be and where it should be saved (i.e. within LMS or on the NAS as an extra programme etc.) I would not like it if I had to preserve both a FLAC- and a MP3-version of the same song on my NAS drive. I have another application that runs fine with HEOS and uses the exact same codebase, except that this one does not care about getting protocol info. Luckily, if I have sorted out the "Extra MimeTypes" problem, you should be able to add extra answers to what ProtocolInfo provides. So just add "audio/mp3,audio/flac,audio/wav,audio/L16" (if you think HEOS do support all these) and it shoudl work to "Extra MimeTypes" (which is the parameter in the config file) LMS 7.7, 7.8 and 7.9 - 5xRadio, 3xBoom, 4xDuet, 1xTouch, 1 SB2. Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] How does LMS cope with sudden powercut / harddrive disconnection ?
Harddrive disconnection ? Are we talking external storage on NAS when the NAS or the network could fail ? If the music directory is not aviable when LMS starts , your dB will be invalid/dropped and you have to fix the problem so the files are aviable again and then do a rescan preferably a clear and rescan everything . What I dont know is LMS actions if the storage fails when we are up and running ? My best practice over the years with LMS has been to be sure that the hard drives with music is properly mounted before LMS starts . This is also why I never tried to have drives/directories mounted over WiFi or had several different NAS boxes this makes everything more complex and prone to mistakes and errors . Im travel a lot in work so I power down stuff while away so most of of dB rebuilds have been me :) not starting everything properly or done to much experimenting and then forget about it two weeks later when I get home expecting to hear music .
