Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] LMS on MacOS 10.15 "Catalina"?

2020-01-17 Thread Michael Herger

I’m missing somethingupdated to Catalina and all seemed well. I
purchased some tunes on the new music app. They play fine but the album
art isn’t showing up on my touch. The artwork is fine on the Apple Music
app.

The (eternal Beta) AppleScript we were using to import artwork from
iTunes no longer works with the new Music app.

I don't think there's any NAS available where the vendor would still
support LMS. Synology announced a few weeks ago that they will stop
providing it for their systems.

Therefore you're better off seeing what the community does support. And
that's a good topic for a new thread.

I'd be happy to update the binaries, but have failed to compile so far.
I might give it another try if I find some time. But I'm not really a

Looking at it another way it is possible to limit DSTM to a mix BASED on
a limited number of Genres.
A while ago Michael made it possible to create a Random Seed mix.
I’m using an iPhone so a bit difficult For me to search but if you try a
Forum search for “Random Seed” you should find the thread which explains
how to use.

Google BulkFileChanger
Freeware Windows tool that will allow you to modify file attributes as
you wish

Example of where useful
You rip files to FLAC with no embedded art but with folder.jpg
You scan and find folder.jpg is corrupted and need to replace
You do so and rescan
LMS doesn’t detect the change unless you do a full rescan
Use BulkFileChanger to modify time of FLAC files by 1 second
Rescan
All well and album maintains position in New Music

Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Logitech Media Server 7.9.2 released

2020-01-17 Thread darrenburg

I am not sure if this is the right thread.

I have a Squeezebox (LMS) server running on an old QNAP, which I have
not really updated for a number of years. The LMS is from 2010. I don't
use it for anything other than a NAS drive and LMS, but was reluctant to
update the firmware, as I did not want to break the LMS. Lately, some
of the radio stations are not playing, and I would like to retire the
NAS unit (as it has just a single drive). I am very happy to see that
this software is still being maintained, though.

Is there a list somewhere of "modern" supported hardware with model
numbers/OS versions? I saw the neargear NAS's in the list of supported
hardware, but I also read that the latest units don't work anymore, so I
am a bit confused. I could always go the Rasberry PI approach, but this
does add cost and an extra device that I need to maintain. I need to buy
a new NAS anyway.

PS I would be happy to make a donation!

I already have that, with MultiLibrary and CustomBrowse (Erland's). I've
got a Multichannel library and a Stereo library. But LastMix keeps
choosing Multichannel material even if the Multichannel library is set
to be included only for the living room Squeezebox (which is connected

and LastMix keeps picking multichannel tracks just the same.
I'm sorry, I know this has not much to do with 7.9.2.

More detail: I'll try my best.
Active screen: The screen that comes up when starting SLX. But it's in
the tray, no active window.
Wait time: I wait till my NAS says QLMS disabled. I assume that means
that all processes have been closed. Then I'd restart LMS.
Time till report: As soon as the log-page is available again.

That explains a lot. :o

I'm going through all the steps right now:

- LMS is running, SLX is running and controlling its player (that is
  not the default player)
- Exiting SLX
- Restarting SLX, it's sitting in the tray now
- Stopping QLMS
- Waiting
- NAS says "QLMS disabled" at 16:56:41
- Restarting LMS
- Checked log, the error occurred
- Opening SLX (it has switched to its default player. The default
  player is another player.)

Please set plugin.cli again, but this time check the "keep during

Depends on which mixer you're using (DSTM itself does not create any

2) I have an album in opus, files are *.opus. Scanner is not picking

for the scanner and report back for this, but maybe I'm overlooking
something.

7.9.2 had gone stable.
Two questions on the above.

1) Is it possible to exclude a genre from Don't Stop the Music? I have
5.1 music on my server and use ffmpeg to convert it to 2.0 for players
not supporting DTS/AC3. The script always works when called directly but
when going from 2.0 to 5.1 music... sometimes it just outputs static.
Furthermore, I have all the corresponding albums in 2.0, so there's no
real point in using 5.1 stuff, unless I specifically select it. All the
5.1 content has genre "5.1" if that could help (and it comes all from
the same directory).

2) I have an album in opus, files are *.opus. Scanner is not picking
them up. Is there something specific I need to do? I'll activate debug
for the scanner and report back for this, but maybe I'm overlooking
something.

Thanks for keeping the flame lit. It's immensely appreciated.

More than two minutes to scan 12000 files just seems slow while you're

Yes, I know about the problems with FreeFileSync, the content method is
too slow for me.

I do it the other way, I have a drive used only for the master copy of
my music files, here I make all tag/filestamp changes.

The SSD HDD connected to my Pi4 is just a copy, using FreeFileSync over
SAMBA.

FreeCommander might fix an issue I have had for ages now. I have my
music on a HDD plugged into my Pi4 and a backup on another HDD that I
plug into my laptop to rip CDs to and then transfer files over the
network using freefilesync.
I decided to change all my replaygain tags to the newer standard and
rather than do this on one HDD then transfer all the files to the second
I figured it might be quicker to change the tags on both HDDs separately
while maintaining timestamps. Turns out the timestamps were not
maintained as promised so freefilesync sees all the files as being
different. I had to change the method freefilesync uses to recognise new
files from date to content which takes much longer.
FreeCommander looks to be the answer [emoji3]

Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Can You Fix Contaminated New Music List (by Updates To Older Files)?

2020-01-17 Thread Paul Webster

You could try this ... take care though as I have not tested it for odd
things happening ...

Assuming your music is on drive m: and you have a sacrifical artist
called "artistname" that you want to test with ...
from "dos" command prompt in Windows type:

Code:

m:
  cd \artistname

  powershell

Assuming that responds with something that has "PS" at the start of the
line then you are in Windows PowerShell

Then

Code:

  Get-ChildItem . * -recurse | ForEach-Object{$_.LastWriteTime =
$_.CreationTime}

This should set the Modified Time to the same as the Creation Time for
all files from that location and downwards
i.e.
artistname/*
artistname/album1/*
artistname/album2/*

at the end of the session type

Code:

  exit

to return to the "dos" prompt

Here is an edited example of me doing it

Code:

  C:\Users\paul>mkdir tmp

  C:\Users\paul>cd tmp

  C:\Users\paul\tmp>notepad tmp.tmp

  C:\Users\paul\tmp>dir tmp.tmp
Volume in drive C is Windows

  Directory of C:\Users\paul\tmp

  C:\Users\paul\tmp>notepad tmp.tmp

  1 File(s) 20 bytes

  C:\Users\paul\tmp>powershell
  Windows PowerShell
Copyright (C) Microsoft Corporation. All rights reserved.

Try the new cross-platform PowerShell https://aka.ms/pscore6

  PS C:\Users\paul\tmp> Get-ChildItem . * -recurse |
ForEach-Object{$_.LastWriteTime = $_.CreationTime}

  PS C:\Users\paul\tmp> exit

  C:\Users\paul\tmp>dir /od
Volume in drive C is Windows

  Directory of C:\Users\paul\tmp
