LMS is a music center system. It helps you manage your music library and
search/play tracks, create playlists, access streaming services and so
on. It has clients to control it from a web browser but also from your
smartphone. Normally, players should be specialized devices named
"squeezeboxes". They are not produced anymore by Logitech, but some
clones can be created using a raspberry Pi and some weirdos like me have
made "bridges" that allow airplay/chromecast/upnp players to fake a real
squeezebox and integrate them into the LMS "ecosystem". One important
feature of LMS is to be able to play synchronized music on multiple
players, but that does *not* work with upnp or chromecast.

Now, if you have only one UPnP device, don't know about LMS and just
want to organize your library, there are other solutions that are UPnP
aware and which might be easier to use (I don't want to say better
because I don't want to start a useless heated debate and I don't have a
strong opinion anyway).

Using my bridge is fine, but UPnP players can be temperamental and can
be frustrating to tweak to work well under LMS.

Now, here you have a really good community of people that will help you.

I usually don't plan these things. But when I see there's a need by more

Last night I played with the idea of a Docker image to simplify this
process without the need to install a full Fedora VM. But I'm not there

[SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] UPnP/DLNA Media Interface vs UPnP Media Bridge plugins (Newbie...be gentle!)

2022-01-07 Thread RoyalScam

Hello, all. I'll cut to the point.

I've got a Mac filled with FLAC files. I've got an Onkyo TX-8160 stereo
network receiver. I'd like to get the two wirelessly speaking to each
other via DLNA (since my wireless choice on that receiver is either DLNA
or Airplay). I've fiddled around with Universal Media Server and Plex,
so this isn't -totally- foreign to me.

Ideally, I'd like to access my Mac/FLAC library remotely via iPeng (or
similar) on my iPad and feed the music to the Onkyo.

Where I'm confused is to which plugin I'd need to enable to accomplish
this: Andy's UPnP/DLNA Media _Interface_ or Phillipe's UPnP/DLNA Media
_Bridge_. Yes, I've searched and read a bunch of explanations...still
confused as to which and why, or if either, advantages/disadvantages.

As they say on Reddit: explain like I'm five. :o

$ perl -v gives me:

Code:

This is perl 5, version 34, subversion 0 (v5.34.0) built for
x86_64-linux-thread-multi

  Copyright 1987-2021, Larry Wall

I had been running 8.0.0 on Fedora 33 (and have been running on Linux --
mostly Fedora -- since before Slim Devices was bought by Logitech) with
no issues and did an upgrade straight to Fedora 35. The problems started
right after the upgrade to F35.

I've uninstalled 8.2 and its dependencies and tried both 8.1.1 and
8.0.0, both without success. FYI, these are all noarch.rpm files from
here: https://downloads.slimdevices.com/

Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] LMS not automatically starting on Mac boot

2022-01-07 Thread pricebrad

I noticed something, perhaps it's helpful to those working on the code?
I'm on macOS Big Sur and left the setting in LMS Pref Pane on
Automatically Start Server at Login (previously I always used When
System Boots, but have been trying various things suggested here since
that stopped working.) What I noticed is that when I went into System
Preferences, and clicked Logitech Media Server, without doing anything
else the Server showed Starting. I did not need to click the Start
Server button! So I closed System Preferences, restarted, and
reproduced the same thing again. Next, I left the System Preferences
open, left the LMS Pane open so I could see the Stop Server button, and
did a restart. Since my Mac is set to log in automatically and reopens
all the windows from previous session, the LMS did in fact start
automatically. Obviously this is not ideal, but it would seem that
"touching" or opening the LMS pref pane is crucial to having the server
start automatically. Hope this is helpful to someone working on a fix.

Fedora doesn't seem to provide a package that contains Image::Scale

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Michael, I have been running LMS on win 11 for a couple of months.

one exception. I run version: 8.3.0 - 1641468587 @ Thu Jan 6 12:46:53

The PC doesn't exhibit any aberrant sleep/wake behaviour the way that

happening. I can work around it with an android app to close down and
wake the PC remotely but it's more clunky.

1. In PiCore I see the Select Branch options of Release; Stable and
Development. Is it as simple as selecting the branch and then "update
LMS"?

Yes

2. I assume Release is 8.2.0, Stable is 8.2.1 Development 8.3.0

Yes

3. Can I move freely between these branches or is there no going back
without a new install from scratch. eg. If I went to Stable I would be
prevented from returning to Release, or if I went for the development
branch no return to stable or release.

At the moment ... Yes you can move between them - but that is not
guaranteed for the future

4. Given my low level of knowledge ( pretty much non existent on Linux)
am I just asking for trouble in moving at all do you think.

No - but Stable is good unless there are specific new features that you
are expecting to see in Development.

[SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Some Basic advice on which branch of LMS to be on

2022-01-07 Thread The Groundsman

Some very basic things I hope some patient person will clear up for me.

I used to run LMS on Windows and was on the nightly branch, mainly out
of curiosity so would be quite comfortable updating LMS to the latest
version very frequently. It did go wrong a few times but I was able to
sort it out even if it meant starting everything from scratch as a last
resort. I'm now on Picore with the default set up and it's working great
- Thank you. I've had a couple of plugin updates but I might be brave
enough to be a bit more adventurous.

Current info
Logitech Media Server Version: 8.2.0 - 1627922070 @ Tue Aug 3 11:43:18
CEST 2021
Hostname: pCP
Server IP Address: 192.168.1.194
Server HTTP Port Number: 9000
Operating system: piCore - EN - utf8
Platform Architecture: armv7l-linux
Perl Version: 5.32.1 - arm-linux-gnueabihf-thread-multi-64int
Audio::Scan: 1.05
IO::Socket::SSL: 2.071
Database Version: DBD::SQLite 1.58 (sqlite 3.22.0)
Total Players Recognized: 4

So my concerns are about switching branches.

1. In PiCore I see the Select Branch options of Release; Stable and
Development. Is it as simple as selecting the branch and then "update
LMS"?
2. I assume Release is 8.2.0, Stable is 8.2.1 Development 8.3.0
3. Can I move freely between these branches or is there no going back
without a new install from scratch. eg. If I went to Stable I would be
prevented from returning to Release, or if I went for the development
branch no return to stable or release.
4. Given my low level of knowledge ( pretty much non existent on Linux)
am I just asking for trouble in moving at all do you think.
