Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] suddenly getting consistently lower volume on a radio station
I did contact the station and they responded that other listeners have contacted them with the same issue, and that their tech staff is looking into it. On a side note, the first response I got from them was basically addressing a different matter, namely why their station is quieter than other stations and streaming services. More or less a broadcast version of the Loudness Wars. But that's separate from why their station is quieter than it used to be. aubuti's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2074 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=117039 ___ Squeezecenter mailing list Squeezecenter@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/squeezecenter
[SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] suddenly getting consistently lower volume on a radio station
Over the past week or two I've noticed that the volume when streaming our local National Public Radio station (WAMU FM) is lower than it used to be. I've tried it on various systems (all running on the same LMS). I can see that I have to turn the volume knob up 10-20% to have it sound as loud as it used to. And while old-age hearing loss is certainly a real thing, I'm not experiencing the same issue with other radio stations or with music from my library. It seems unlikely, but is there anything I can do in the LMS settings to boost the gain from this one station? Thanks. Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] LMS refusing to connect
Thanks all. Overwrote max2play with piCore running LMS and things are back to normal (still need to finish tweaking options and plugins). I do like that piCore survives non-graceful shutdowns and appears to have good provision for backing up LMS settings. Not using piCore Player at the moment, but now thinking again about getting a HiFiBerry or Allo HAT for my other RPi as a possible replacement for one of my SBs. Cheers! aubuti's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2074 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=112921 ___ Squeezecenter mailing list Squeezecenter@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/squeezecenter
Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] LMS refusing to connect
Thanks. No special settings that I recall. And I can't get into the WebUI now to confirm The server.log is filled with the following lines, posting every 5 seconds (connected with 'sleep 5' process no doubt): -mm-dd hh:mm:ss Logitech Media Server died. Restarting. Think I'm going to just overwrite the RPi installation of max2play and LMS, or maybe give PiCore Player a spin as an alternative to max2 play. And once I have things restored keep a clone of the SD card in a safe place. aubuti's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2074 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=112921 ___ Squeezecenter mailing list Squeezecenter@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/squeezecenter
Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] LMS refusing to connect
Slightly more info. The last process listed is just the grep from the ps command, but I wonder if the second line ("sleep 5") is normal. pi@max2play:~ $ ps aux | grep squeeze squeeze+ 576 0.0 0.3 6788 2944 ?S16:22 0:00 /bin/bash /usr/sbin/squeezeboxserver_safe /usr/sbin/squeezeboxserver --prefsdir /var/lib/squeezeboxserver/prefs --logdir /var/log/squeezeboxserver/ --cachedir /var/lib/squeezeboxserver/cache --charset=utf8 squeeze+ 3470 0.0 0.0 5096 352 ?S16:33 0:00 sleep 5 pi3472 0.0 0.2 5976 1864 pts/0S+ 16:34 0:00 grep --color=auto squeeze aubuti's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2074 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=112921 ___ Squeezecenter mailing list Squeezecenter@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/squeezecenter

Yep, IP addresses are ok. But always good not to overlook the most basic things. [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] LMS refusing to connect
I feel dumb about this because several years ago when I hung out a lot in these forums I could help other people resolve such matters. I've been running LMS 8.0.0 -- one of the nightlies from 1-2 months ago -- just fine on a Raspberry Pi under Max2play. Two days ago it had an abrupt shutdown when an electrician in the house started flipping circuit breakers randomly until he found the one he wanted. Since then LMS appears to start, but none of my SBs can see it and iPeng can't see it. If I point my browser to :9000 I get the message: "This site can't be reached. 111.222.333.444 refused to connect. Try checking the connection [and] checking the proxy and firewall. ERR_CONNECTION_REFUSED" On the other hand, the max2play web interface indicates that LMS is running, and if I login via Putty I see that the squeezeboxserver process is running, with the same pid that max2play reports. If I click max2play's button "Open Squeezebox Server Webadministration" I get the same "refused to connect" message as when I go manually to LMSip:9000 (no surprise there). So: - what is likely to be going on? - where do I look in the logs to figure out what is going on? As a final note, I cleverly set up a (almost) clone of my functioning LMS on another SD card installed in another RPi. Then, not so cleverly, I had the backup RPi plugged in (but powered down) on the same strip as the functioning RPi. It is now exhibiting the same behavior, so I'm wondering if it came on after one off/on of the breaker, and then shut down abnormally on the next off/on, corrupting the SD card in a manner similar to the corruption on the main RPi. That is, if file corruption is indeed the issue. Thanks in advance for help with diagnosis and resolving. Audio system in transition while still relocating from halfway around the world. Any advice on how to do it the correct way (on the first try) to upgrade to 7.9.1 from 7.9.0 on a RPi 3 running Max2Play? I decided to give Michael's plugin to stream Radio Paradise in FLAC a go and need 7.9.1 running. Cheers. Nothing high-end, but music anywhere I want it.
