OK, I managed to create playlists from cue files under 'artists'. Pity
that I can't do this by using my music folder instead because that how
my music is organised and I'm not going to systematically retag my
87,000 tracks. Yes, I know my tagging should have been better in the
first place, but c'est la guerre. Maybe one day LMS will allow this
(Michael H can you hear me? I doubt it as this doesn't seem to be high
priority).

OK, thanks for that info. It's true I browse exclusively by folder (my
music folder being where everything is kept with myriad sub-folders). I
have 87,000+ tracks and this works welll for me.

When I get a chance I will browse by artist or album and give it a try
tomorrow (Sydney time) and get back to you. It isn't really essential to
me, as I only occasionally create playlists, perferring in the norm
simply to play whole albums. But I'd like to experiment a bit with
mixing it up so if I have to go the album/artist route for this purpose
that's OK with me. I read somewhere on hydrogenaudio that my issue has
something to do with .m3u file capacities.

I think that's the key to this issue. I have most of my music stored
the same way as the OP (each folder contains one big FLAC, a separate
CUE and a JPG). I exclusively use the 'Artists' or 'Albums' option to
drill down into my music, and selecting single tracks works perfectly.
But as a test, to replicate the OPs problem, I used the 'Music Folder'
option to drill down and select a single track, and indeed the entire
FLAC file gets added to the playlist.

@chopinhauer - make sure LMS has scanned your music folder, then try
using the 'Artists' option underneath the main 'My Music' item in the
left pane.

Unfortunately, it may work for you but I can't get it to work for me.
When creating playlists from cue files, I only add the whole album and
not the individual track every time.

I even tried this in foobar and exactly the same thing happened so I
must be doing something wrong. In both LMS and Foobar when I select out
the tracks and save as .m3u file the actual playlist is simply each
whole album for every track saved (i.e. hours and hours long).

So perhaps if you could walk me through how you do it step by step,
either in foobar or, preferably, LMS? I'd greatly appreciate it. FYI,
I'm pretty au fait with cue files, LMS and foobar so not a complete
newbie (indeed been a member of this forum for over 10 years) but I
don't do any command line stuff or anything that involves text editing
(other than changing file names and tags etc).

As said above. I am using embedded CUE sheets within the big flac file.
Also the picture is embedded.
I know about the concept you are using, but had problems when I started
many years ago.

Embedded CUE sheets do fully integrate in LMS. (It's a great feature!!)

The cue sheets are kept in the same folder as the large flac file. So
the folder contains 3 things; 1. The flac file, say 300mb; 2. the cue
sheet (tiny file size) and 3. a jpg, with the album cover. Using the web
gui on my computer, with dual panes, the left showing the folder, the
right showing the playlist, whenever I add a single track to the
playlist it shows up as the single track name, but the length of the
track is the whole album. So my playlist consists of different single
track names, but are each actually the whole album.

I use a lot of large FLAC files (whole CDs) with embedded cue sheets.
Here I can w/o problem add single tracks to playlists and favorites.
Pls explain in more detail the problem? Where / how do you store the cue
sheet?

If you want your lossless files to remain lossless, don't use Medieval
CUE Splitter. It will not only cut your files but cut from your files.
Use CUETools instead. It also lets you verify your rips. (Try verifying
a disc after splitting it with CUE Splitter to see what I mean.)

[SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Creating playlists from cue files in LMS 7.9.2

2020-02-21 Thread chopinhauer

I'm pretty new to and inexpert in creating playlists.

I can manage it pretty well in LMS 7.9.2 from albums with each track in
an individual Flac or APE files. When I try, however, to add an
individual track from an album constituted by a single large Flac or APE
file plus a cue sheet I end up adding the whole album instead of the
particular track.

Is there any way to add single tracks from albums linked to cue files or
do I have to split the large Flac/Ape file first with a program like Cue
Splitter. FYI, I have the playlist add-on enabled in but have never used
it.
