Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] LMS 7.9 Nightly stops working after some time
Though I understand now that LMS is a really vulnerable system to be I wouldn't even say this is a vulnerability. If you leave the door open, then anyone can enter your home. Is this a vulnerability in your door's design? No. It's wrong use :-). That said: there's no doubt LMS wasn't designed to be secure. opened up to the internet, why is that for the Hues? It's not the Hues. It's anything. Nowadays I'd recommend not to expose anything to the internet unless you know exactly what you're doing. Unless you know your systems are all up to date, latest patches of everything installed etc. And you can almost bet this is never the case for consumer electronics. Worst case they can only switch lights on and of, or is it possible to corrupt the bridge that way? Worst case they know about a vulnerability you (and Philips) don't know about, which allows them to do anything they want on your device. Imagine another bug in the web server used which allows installing executables on that bridge. Even simpler with LMS: one of its "vulnerabilities" is the ability to install plugins through the web UI. Such a plugin can do _anything_ in the context of the user LMS is running under. On Windows this often is a service user which has access to all/most files of the system without anyone being logged in. A hacker could easily install a stupid, simple bot as part of your LMS installation. -- Michael ___ Squeezecenter mailing list Squeezecenter@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/squeezecenter

That's the first mistake assuming that everyone's uses the software as intended and gives it sane inputs . A flawed IOT (internet of things ) could give away for example your wifi password etc . Like some so called smart lightbulbs actually do . For example script injection only works because someone assumed that in a field in a web form marked "name" 100% user would actually just write thier name and not for example paste in code snippets :) and watch the fun . I have 4 places that have been equipped with all generations, from 85Mbs to 2000Mbs and no brand has ever showed good stability, at least as soon as you have more than 3 (sometimes 2) plugs. Worse has been when UDP frames are used, that's a total disaster with regular "blackout" of a few seconds. I hate these devices, but at least they forced me to test some of my plugins more resilient to network temporary outages and lots of dropped frames :) LMS 7.7.5 - 5xRadio, 3xBoom, 4xDuet, 1xTouch, 1 SB2. Also, while I have your attention, there's a large discrepancy in the amount of tracks reported by LMS. It tells me that I have 26,152 songs whereas the real number should be 24,478. I know the real number is this because MusicIP tells me so, as well as muso, which is a program I use to control LMS and catalog my music. I believe it gets its numbers directly from TrackStat. You can see details about muso here: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?81685-ANNOUNCE-muso-(production) So is there anything that I can do to find out what's causing this difference of 1,674 songs? Sorry about that. I still have 247 GB available but that's out of 12 TB total. So yes, I'm running out of space with over 98% full. Does that matter? That should be fine. But are you sure this is the partition where the cache lives? Most NAS devices have a partition you usually don't get to see, but on which system data like this is stored. This partition is only small, compared to the accessible data partition. If so, how? :) ElwoodSC's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=30764 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=106940 ___ Squeezecenter mailing list Squeezecenter@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/squeezecenter

Really? > > -- > > Michael As all signs suggest network problems I wrote a poweshell-script that pings all my squeezeboxes from the machine running LMS and logging all lost packets with a timestamp. As all my squeezeboxes are on wifi there will probably some lost packages, I hope to see what log entries corelate to those lost packets. Apart from that, even if a sequeezebox loses connection to the server for a couple of miliseconds - why is the server dying on that disconnection? Michael, could you instruct me on what exactly to log in LMS to nail down that issue? If I set everything to debug I'll get a huuuge logfile as it takes 1-2 days for the issue to reappear. Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] LMS 7.9 Nightly stops working after some time
Still having the same issue, last time it took about three days until the issue reappeared. And again, I had the "request not dispatchable"-Errors in my log. These messages usually mean that a player has lost connection to the server, but some client (web UI, mobile app, whatever) was still requesting information for that player. Sounds like a network issue between your player and your server. "Can't connect to remote server - timed out waiting for data" either that server is dead (which I can't imagine for TuneIn), or there's a network problem. I know, despite all the signs: there's not network problem. Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] LMS 7.9 Nightly stops working after some time
Still having the same issue, last time it took about three days until the issue reappeared. And again, I had the "request not dispatchable"-Errors in my log. If I find no solution the only thing that can do is to restart LMS every night by script - but I'd like to pinpoint the root cause and not just cure the symptoms. Any more ideas from you guys? Any goot ideas on what to log on top of the default logging settings? First song is OK but when it come to second song, the script crash and no informations about the artwork ? I'm not even sure it has to do with the artwork of any track: in the log file you posted it crashed returning a player icon. Do you need perl version or w10 version ? Windows (Perl is the same for all Windows versions, as it's part of the build). -- Michael ___ Squeezecenter mailing list Squeezecenter@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/squeezecenter

Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] LMS 7.9 Nightly stops working after some time
Hi guys, I had pretty the same issue after upfgrading to 7.9.0. Logfile throws the same errors, web-ui isn't available any more etc. Checkking top, squeezeserver ran svereal (10-20) processes which caused haevy load on the system. The only way I coudl handle it, was purging (!) the LMS and downgrading to 7.8.1 again like: - stopping server - killing all processes - reboot without squeezeserver - purge the server with "sudo apt-get remove --purge logitechmediaserver" - remove manually "/var/lib/squeezeboxserver" as it was blocked for some kind of reason. - then reinstall 7.8.1 Just removing 7.9.0 and reinstalling 7.8.1 did NOT work - same problem. So be sure to completely deinstall all files. So far so good, up and running again without trouble. I haven't activated any other then the default plugins jet. On the broken system I ran the 3rd part spotify-plugin from Triode and the Shairport2 plugin from disaster123. I run a ubuntu 16.4 LTS system, my cllients are three raspberrries with squeezelite on rasbian jessie. I will fiddle about the plugins and let you know. Cheers! I just unplugged the network cable for a short time to simulate a network glitch - but that didn't stop the Server from working... I know that unplugging a cable is different from packetloss trough a faulty cable - but I'm quite sure that I don't have a network Problem with my Server. There a many Services running on my Server (Hyper-V Host with ~10 running VMs) that do not Show any anomalies. I now have disabled nearly all the Default plugins to a Minimum set of needed plugins and will continue to watch what happens. I'm still searching for: - hints on which logging Topics I should set to debug to get more relevant Information - Nightly 7.9 builds from Mid 2016 (or, of course if available, any other 7.9 build from that time) Regards, Florian ElwoodSC's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=30764 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=106940 ___ Squeezecenter mailing list Squeezecenter@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/squeezecenter

I was using my Homeplugs (Homeplug is the name of the standard aka Powerline) as an example of a "network outage" not necessarily your issue. "Network outage" just means connection from server to router and consider all possibilities (e.g faulty cable, faulty NIC). A way to see if problem is network realted would be to check if any other application on the server suffered a network "glitch" at the same time - to defintively test you could set "ping" going and correlate LMS outage with "ping" gaps/failures. No, there was no Network outage at that time - I think, I even watched Amazon Prime at that time so Internet was available as well. And even if there was a network problem LMS should not stop working, right? I'm a little clueless on which logging areas I should enable to pinpoint my issue - any tips for that? Looks like there was a network issue at that time. When it happens again check if you can reach the internet from your LMS server. BTW, if you don't need the iTunes plugin, disable it. reinholdk's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=36070 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=106940 ___ Squeezecenter mailing list Squeezecenter@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/squeezecenter
