Your memory is correct, Kevin. But the Bayou Ltd. plan was never really
produced as a product, either, as far as I know. Only one locomotive other
than Paul Kenney's prototype, or maybe two, was ever produced from the plans.

I understand that Jim Crabb, an associate of Paul's and now the Roundhouse
dealer in that part of the US, is trying to contact Paul about the possibility
of offering his plans. I don't know if he's had any success in that, however.

Jun, I published an article in Garden Railways magazine about four years ago
that showed my 2-8-0 tender locomotive made from a Roundhouse chassis kit and
boiler kit. There was one drawing in the article showing how I modified the
frame to add one more axle and to make it appear like a US type frame rather
than a UK type. But is was not really a plan. It was mostly description with
photos of the loco in different stages of completion.

I will be glad to send you a PDF version of that article, if it would help you.
I think what you must do, though, is find drawings of a locomotive that pleases
you, then measure the Roundhouse chassis and find how to change it so it
resembles that locomotive. This work will be art as well as engineering.

I learned many of the techniques by looking at Kevin Strong's two Roundhouse
modifications, and from much experimentation. Perhaps Kevin can contribute
some suggestions for making this work, too. But in the end, there are no
instructions you can follow from beginning to end. You must create them
yourself.

Wasn't there a plan (or a kit) put out by Bayou Ltd. a while back for a
2-6-2? Aside from that, I don't think there were ever any "commercial"
kits for building something from the Roundhouse boiler and chassis.

There are the usual suppliers of brass detail parts, (Trackside Details,
Accucraft, Precision Scale). Unfortunately, only Accucraft has a website
that I know of. They should be able to supply any brass detail fittings
that you would want.

I don't know if this helps at all, but perhaps it will jar someone
else's memory.

Michael,

Another clever bit on Lucas- ( which I DIDN'T bring up)-if you don't all
shut up --I will have my nephew, Paul Skilleter, publisher of the Jaguar
Quarterly magazine, writer of several books on the Jag (brag, brag), write
an epistle on Lucas and send it to the list. Then Mr Cole will fire us
all-Right Mr Cole?? At the National Summer Steamup, I will further discuss
with Mr Cole, the neccessity of severe disciplining of the "List" --that
is- if he buys me an ale!

Incidentally, Dave, do you know if we are going to get acknowledgements for
registration to "The NationaL Summer Steamup" --not that it's really
necessary, it's just good to know that one's registration has been received.

Geoff.

Are you in need of assembly plans for the kits? I have instructions for

Let me know of you need them scanned/sent to you. :)

Unfortunately, I cannot answer the actual request, however, I went
to view the site below. I was sadly unable to figure out what language
encoding was needed to view all the site, however, the photograph of
the layout on the home page is a superior example, in my view, of the
power of the "less is more" principle.

One key to my eye that elevates this little layout is that the colors
are harmonized very effectively. Another key is that the track is
raised up enough to bring the scene more closely to level viewing.

What a delight to see.

I never had any problem with my MGB-GTs electrics. The biggest problem was
the design placement of the oil filter... right above the starter motor.
Never had a rusty starter motor though! At least Roundhouse, and a few
others, are doing a good job.

RE: 1/6 Formula and Exhaust Nozzle

2002-05-22 Thread Shyvers, Steve

Victor,

Thank you again for clarifying that the distance from the top of the
smokebox to the petticoat minimum should be labeled "little p" instead of "P
minus p". Initially I interpreted the "P minus p" dimension as merely
redundant.

The third instruction, "Make b=2d, or 0.5D", allows one to solve for "h" in
the second instruction, if one assumes that 2d equals 0.5D. Then "h" equals
0.25D, which is close to your recommendation of 0.3D.

I recognize that these dimensions are not critical in our small locos, but
it is fun to have few fundamentals understood and salted away for future
use.

Steve
