2002-07-30 Thread Anthony Dixon

Hi Geoff,
I thought you had already reviewed the Scotsman at Diamonhead?. So
what extra bells and whistles are they adding which you have not seen?.
 i.e. coal fired?,
   Hidden Safety valves,
   Operational Cylinder blow down valves?.
Two corridor tenders with water scoops?
BR Green version instead of LNER Apple green?,
   Smoke Deflectors?,
   Kylchap Smokestack?.
   Working running lamps?.
   R/C?.
   Rake of LNER Teak Coaches?.

What did I miss out?.
Regards,
Tony D.

Hi Graham,
Duchess has full walschearts valve gear.
Has R/C Throttle with integrated blower control, and operating cylinder
blow down drain cocks. Also has finite R/C cut-off control on forward and
reverse. Throttle can also be set manually to adjust for load. i.e.
overrides R/C throttle.
Note- Barretts engines are all slip eccentric, so can only be
controlled with R/C on throttle, but still interesting to run.
Are you building your own Duchess or who is making for you?.
 Regards,
 Tony D.

Hi Geoff,
As far as I am concerned, you can mention anything!.
Was very good to see you at Pleasanton and chat. Albeit too briefy. Now
if you had visited me on Monday, things would have been far different.

Tony,

Last week I got the vertical boiler soldered for the 4-2-0 project loco, and
I bought material for the boiler jacket. As soon as I fit the jacket to the
boiler I will start working out the steam plumbing and burner details. Maybe
I'll have it in steam by the 17th, but I won't bet on it.

I've just been moving and have nothing to say. No time to play with the
steamer makes Trot a weary fox... {:]

Soon though this will all be alleviated when I get the garage (I have an
attached garage now!) cleaned up enough to lay track around it. The Ruby
will steam again!!!

Trot, the slowly-plodding, fox...

Well I went on vacation for 9 days after the steamup and
have been trying to catch up ever since. I did get a
moment to work on the boiler for my philly, only to
discover that I have to make the main barrel over again
(thanks, Gary (Watson)) for sending me enough to make
two). That's what happens when you deviate from the
plans.
