Masonry Drills : was: Cement Fastening

2001-06-22 Thread Don Baker

It seems that all electric hand-drills now come with at least Hammer, Reverse, and
stepped Variable
speed - even the "budget specials".

Sometimes overlooked is that, if you use tungsten carbide tipped lathe tools, you have
a green wheel for
sharpening them. Giving TC masonry bits the once-over - [offhand is fine here] on this
wheel brings them
back to better than new. I've also done this many times for non-livesteam friends who
normally throw them
away when blunt.

sludge - again

2001-06-11 Thread Don Baker

Regarding my previous posting, Dave Cole has pointed out that netiquettly I should
have contacted him - as
List Owner - directly.
One tends to forget about the ever-present List Mom keeping an eye on things from the
background but,
obviously, queries of this sort should go to the List Owner.

My mail was not intended to suggest that the problem had arisen through the List, but
to try to narrow
down the source of the unwanted mail. The replies to my posting so far clearly show
that the particular
problem is not in any way related to this Group.
I suppose that whenever one e-mails an organisation [or person], the sender's address
ends up on some
list, and is then vunerable for exploitation.

Sludge

2001-06-10 Thread Don Baker

Anybody else get a rather sad sludge posting from a hardcore porn site yesterday? I
usually get 3 or 4
spam mails a day and have learnt to live with it, and have got used to hitting the
Delete button, but this
one was in a different category. This List is the only US-based list we're on at
present and all my
incoming spam clearly originates in the US.
Enjoy your N.Hemisphere summer steam-ups!

Vest Pocket Climax

1999-12-06 Thread Don Baker

Greetings all,
Any comments on the VP Climax, as described in SitG recently?. Have there
been a number built, and how do they perform? Up to expectations? I bought
most of the castings and made a start, although the project has been on ice
for a year or so now, but am thinking about getting going again.

Also, any suggestions as to a source of appropriate caboose, flat car, or
log car kits for the Climax? ( 32mm gauge in my case).
Thanks

Greetings to all,
I seem to be migrating from 3-1/2 in scale [7-1/4 in gauge NG] in the
direction of 16mmNG [32mm track], although still sitting on the fence right
now. Have started a Vest Pocket Climax - anybody know Mel Ridley's e-mail
address? - and have virtually the full set of lost wax castings. Boiler
completed. Also have made a modest start on a Baldwin 4-6-2 South African
Railways NG10 [2ft gauge]. Length 750mm! To be coal-fired, boiler in
progress. No track yet but have completed 6 rolling stock items from kits -
all Brit. NG. Thinking about a Roundhouse "Millie".
