Re: priming

I have a small sand blaster that uses very fine grit it works great costs
15-20 dollars at harbor freight . You still need a
compressor but a small compressor can also be used for a number of other
steam related tasks ( air brush, running engines on air for timing etc )

Re: Steam Clubs

2004-02-17 Thread paul gamlin
There are several factors that have to be considered when Iso butane or
straight butane is used . If the ambient temperatures is below 60 straight
butane does not work very well unless there is a heat source to warm it up .
If the fuel tank is close to the boiler
you can pour hot water over it until the boiler warms sufficiently to heat
the fuel tank . If the tank is located in the tender a hot water will keep
it warm for a while but remember that gas whether Iso or regular butane
flowing through a valve will act as a refrigerant and cause the water bath
to cool down. Iso vaporizes at a lower temperatures but produces lower BTU's
I am repairing a RH SR#24 with a remote fuel tank .I am going to try to
put 2 or 3 loops of copper tubing around the boiler
to equalize and stabilize the fuel pressure going to the jet .

I also get my Iso butane from a camping/sporting goods store . My butaine
comes from a Asian grocery store .

With all this mention about Regner pumps I have a Question or so about the
running of the pump. Does it have a check valve .if so can it be run
independently of a R/C receiver, If it can, what about putting it in a
engine with a just a switch and the correct battery so it can be turned off
and on to replenish the boiler water for say in 20 second increments . You
could also make a independent unit Water pump battery to pump through a
goodall valvewhile the engine is stationary

good news about r/c designed for railroads is that they use "command

distinguish noise from signal. I think some transmit the command several
times, so the receiver has a really easy time.

Re: Ruby Mods

it would be a good idea to double check the pressure of the ruby by having a
pressure gauge on engine for at least a few runs .i put washers on on both of
my ruby's pop valves both same thickness one pressure read 43 lb the other
read 72lb .I then switched pop valves same result
obviously the springs were different resistance for some reason

don't assume that one washer = a five pound rise in pressure .
