Re: Forney kit information
Vance that is Nice! Almost too nice. The wood in the photo looks like it belongs on a piece of fine furniture. I wasn't even aware of the pilot kit which I also like. Phil.P. Reading,PA. Live steam fans, I have posted the Official Publicity Photo of my Forney conversion kit on my FHPB web site (link below), for those of you who are interested in seeing the final product. The first kits are almost ready to ship. I'll have more detailed technical and ordering information in the next day or two; I can send you details directly if you can't wait. I'll also link a PDF file with the instructions in the next week or so, so you can see what you'd be getting into with the kit. If you need further information, please contact me off-list. regards, -Vance- Vance Bass FHPB Railroad Supply Co. 6933 Cherry Hills Loop NE Albuquerque, NM 87111 http://www.nmia.com/~vrbass/fhpb/

If you weren't aware of the pilot kit, either you haven't been paying attention or I haven't been in your face enough with it. (That's how Dave likes it) It's been out about eight months, in any case, and is an exceptionally beautiful addition to any locomotive. ;-) Regarding the walnut stain: the basic wood is birch plywood. I had some Old English Walnut that I liked to color of, so I gave it a try to see if I could get the look of some of the walnut cabs on the early engines. I think it worked. :-) You'll have to stain or paint it to suit your application (all the cabs in the Ruby mods page, except Kevin's scrathbuilt one, are the same material). OK, you ready to order one? Surely you have an untouched Ruby lying around somewhere that needs some beautification? regards, -Vance- Vance Bass FHPB Railroad Supply Co. 6933 Cherry Hills Loop NE Albuquerque, NM 87111 http://www.nmia.com/~vrbass/fhpb/

I installed one on my Ruby who I now call Rosey. That item has really dressed up the engine. One point though they do not survive a collision with a loose caboose in a tunnel. Beautiful they are strong they are not. I guess the driver needs to pay attention. :-) Vance- package arrived today so I will be assembling a new one for Rosey!! Salty CCBW (another shameless plug)
