Re: doorknobs and cabbage stacks

2002-02-26 Thread Carl H. Malone

Howdy all,

The stack in question was made several years ago from an old door knob as
suggested by Kevin strong. I was fortunate enough to have a suitable
candidate on the bathroom door in my shop. So...it was sacrificed for the
good of the project. My house is full of the same type doorknob but I am a
little wary of taking any of these. :_)

This cabbage stack was made for what used to be a Pearse Colorado that
spent some quality time with a jeweler's saw. I was going after a Argent
Lumber CO. Swamp Rat look. See the book, "The Last of the Swamp Rats". Our
own Richard Finlayson was chief hacker on a Pearse loco of his own at the
time and provided much inspiration for my project.

Vance,

It happens every time. I sent the link awhile ago and then found
the other ones I was looking for. Enjoy!

Hey Vance,

Here's the link that I had to Carl's pictures of his 'Swamp Rat' with
the onion stack in place. I still think I've seen more pics of it
somewhere. If I find them I'll let you know.

Hello Vance,

I don't know if you ever got a response to your query or not.
Yes, Carl Malone built a cabbage stack for his 'Swamp Rat' by using a
doorknob. I'll try to find the link to his pics of it when I get home.

'twas not my locomotive, alas. My involvement was limited only to
suggesting the idea. Unfortunately, I haven't come across any more such
knobs since then, so I haven't been able to do anything with that, either.

Ah well...

Thanks, Jim. Sometimes I wonder if I'm losing it early, then I remember that I wasn't
any better at 20!

I think your memory was just fine -- it was Carl Malone.

I believe that was Mr. Strong.
