RE: Re[4]: Why form content is put into the url

2002-04-22 Thread Lawson, Rick

Your form is doing a GET request, that's why the attributes appear in the
URL.

If you want to 'hide' them (as I think you do) then use a POST request
instead.

Look at the docs (at
http://jakarta.apache.org/struts/userGuide/struts-html.html#form) and decide
how your form is submitted. (Interestingly, POST is the default so did you
specifically request a GET?)

Note that even as a POST request, the password attibute would be readable to
someone who really wanted to read it (with a network sniffer or something).
You'd need SSL to be really sure it is secure.

My application works like the struts-example (Registration). In the
example the Attributes were not passed in the URL. The URL look very
strange:

Hi John,

Chiki currently uses Castor for Xml Binding. You can download the source

RE: Development Environment

Using Netbeans and Windows 2000.

Keep thinking of creating a load of templates and so on for Netbeans but
never really getting round to it - maybe make it into a module or something
(to be used with struts console)

Has anybody already done this?

anyone have struts templates for netbeans/forte?

2002-01-04 Thread Lawson, Rick

Hi.

Has anyone created templates for quickly creating action classes and so on
in Netbeans?

I already have the (very good) struts console installed - just need to save
some finger tapping with the actual code and the World will be a better

RE: Creating reports in PDF format

2001-12-28 Thread Lawson, Rick

I seem to remember that you can put basic info into excel by simply sending
your page as a comma separated list and setting the MIME type to be that of
excel ( something like x-application/ms-excel I think - you can check in
Windows, I'd check myself but I've switched off access to that menu for
users at work - including myself!)

Subject:RE: Creating reports in PDF format

Thank you both - Fang & Robert - for the info. I will look at both options
- iText & FOP. Looks like if I want to use FOP, I will have to create the
report using XSL, right?

How about Excel? In the past I have used a product called Bridge2Java from
IBM to create a report in the Excel format. But as far as I know it only
works on Windows based servers. My current web app is deployed on Unix
box, so I don't think I can use Bridge2Java.

I know this is probably going to sound stupid, but I have to ask - Is there
a platform independent product that will allow me to create a report in
Excel format? Once the report is created on the server I can let the user
download it via browser. Has anybody done anything like this?

Thanks again!

You can do this with a custom tag

of course you also need to implement this tag.
this is what actually does the job:
public int doEndTag() throws JspException {

// Is there a valid user logged on?
boolean valid = false;
HttpSession session = pageContext.getSession();
if ((session != null) && (session.getAttribute(name) != null))
valid = true;

// Forward control based on the results
if (valid)
return (EVAL_PAGE);
else {
try {
pageContext.forward(page);
} catch (Exception e) {
throw new JspException(e.toString());
}
return (SKIP_PAGE);
}

}

Take a look at the example Mailserver application that comes with Struts.
