[Sugar-devel] IRC activity, version 7

2010-11-16 Thread Fran Rogers
Hello folks,

I'm pleased to announce a new version of the IRC activity. I've been working
on the activity over the past few weeks as part of the Humanitarian FOSS
class at RIT; Mel Chua, the current maintainer, was looking for a new
maintainer and I decided to take up the task.

Version 7 significantly adds Sugar Journal support, allowing your nickname,
server, channels joined, and channel and query scrollback to persist between
sessions. Proper CTCP support has also been added, so you'll no longer get a
gibberish message when Freenode checks your version on login; several other
cosmetic bugs have been fixed, as well.

The new version should be on ASLO soon (I'm still waiting for upload
access), but for now you can download it here:
.xo Bundle: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/11458013/IRC/IRC-7.xo
Source: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/11458013/IRC/IRC-7.tar.bz2

Your input is welcome!

I was trying to hack sugar-jhbuild to work on my arch machine. I have
this problem that the function get_distribution in file sjhbuild/
sysdeps.py is not working in arch, as archlinux is not compatable
 with lsb_release.

I wanted someone to suggest a standard method to find the
 distribution.

I'm using Archlinux as well, any progress on installing sugar-jhbuild
on Archlinux will be helpful.

Best,

Thanks for working on this - it is great!

A request from a few devs hanging out in #sugar was to remove the
default connect to #sugar, as there are quite a few kids connecting for
fun and spamming the channel...:)

   Simon

[Sugar-devel] Global Education Conference - discussion tomorrow

2010-11-16 Thread Tabitha Roder
Hello Sugar Community

Tomorrow Manu and I are leading an open discussion about Sugar as part of
the Global Education Conference and would like to ask the Sugar community to
participate and support this discussion.

Read about it here -
http://wiki.sugarlabs.org/go/Global_education_conference (I put some time
zones on this page to help everyone work out when it is).

We would appreciate it if some Sugar peeps could join us in Elluminate and
also to help in IRC. We will point people to the #sugar-newbies channel -
http://webchat.freenode.net/?randomnick=1channels=sugar-newbiesprompt=1
We don't know how many people to expect or what level of experience with
Sugar (if any) they will have so it's pretty much play it by ear. I ran a
Moodle session yesterday for the Global Education Conference and there were
30 participants, so could be small like that, or much bigger (organisers set
Elluminate room capacity at 500).

Looking forward to seeing you there and thanks in advance for your support.

Kind regards
Tabitha Roder
