Re: Non-'D.S.T' Parts of the USA, and Australia ?
Can anyone give me a list of which USA States (or part-States), do NOT use Daylight-Saving Time - e.g. Arizona doesn't, but which others also don't ? Similarly, can anyone tell me what parts of Australia do NOT use Daylight- Saving Time - I think Queensland doesn't, but are there some more States ? Douglas Hunt. Michigan, Arizona, and Hawaii do not use DST in any part of the state. Parts of Indiana do not use DST. I am not sure this is a complete list. I suggest that only members of the list who are affected vote on this. If you are like me and get your e-mail at work over a direct Internet connection, you shouldn't care about attachments. Of course I am affected by this decision. It matters a great deal to me that the data comes in a single packet when feasible instead of my having to search for it and save it in some coordinated fashion. I'm not sure if Daniel Roth meant for each of us to vote on his limitation suggestion, but if so, I vote for 50 KB. Mac Oglesby Ditto. Hi Douglas: Hawaii, American Samoa, Guam, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, the Eastern Time Zone part of Indiana, and most of Arizona except for the Navajo Indian Reservation, do not observe Daylight Saving Time. There are two very interesting and entertaining websites which deal with DST. I'm sure that you will find out everything you ever wanted to know about the subject, including info about Australia. In the 2ond. site, if you want a laugh, check out the link to Traveling woes in Indiana. There is even a link to a site for signing an anti-DST petition! RE: Non-'D.S.T' Parts of the USA, and Australia ?
Most of Indiana does not use DST. The Northwestern portion of the state, near Gary, does use DST - to stay in sync with Chicago, I presume. Having spent many years without DST, I never have seen its necessity. Greetings All The island of Guam (a US territory) does not use daylight savings time. Since our sunrise/sunset times vary only a little over an hour from 6:00, it wouldn't do us much good. Dear Douglas, Similarly, can anyone tell me what parts of Australia do NOT use Daylight- Saving Time - I think Queensland doesn't, but are there some more States ? In addition to Queensland, the Northern Territory and Western Australia also believe that daylight savings has detrimental effects on curtains, and confuses the cows... Thanks on the QuickBASIC request
Dear Friends, My thanks to everyone who responded to my request for the QuickBASIC installation disks. I still had the essential files, but there are some libraries and other incidentals that were missing. What I still need are the actual installation disks. (Qbasic and QuickBASIC are different programs.) This is not a good swashbuckling request as described. I paid good money for the program back when a dollar was worth something, and I would have bought it again if Uncle Bill hadn't discontinued it to make more money by promoting the Visual Basic for DOS kludge. FWIW, Fred Sawyer and I wrote The Dialist's Companion in QuickBASIC. Bob Terwilliger
A Word of Caution
Fellow Shadow Watchers, Let us not forget why this debate began in the first place - to avoid long and expensive downloads for those afflicted with high local call charges. It would be self-defeating if we regard this new 'freedom to attach' small graphics as the norm rather than the exception. In dialect Scots 'mony a meikle maks a muckle' and a large group of messages with small attachments would take us back to square one. Bravo Bill Bell for the free website idea for large items which must be something akin to the 'dropbox' idea raised earlier. Tony Moss
